The Role
Here at Pride Veterinary Centre, we are looking for an Oncology/Medicine Nurse to join our team! The role will consist of 3 days working in the Oncology department and 2 days within the Medicine department. The working hours for this role vary between 8am and 6pm, with one late finish a week finishing at 7pm. There is a 1:6 weekend rotation, with 2 days in lieu the following week. A bank holiday and night cover rota are also in place.

Oncology Is a demanding yet rewarding discipline. You will be required to provide a high level of care to the oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy. Your time in the oncology department will be mostly spent in the chemotherapy suite, calculating and administering chemotherapy treatments. You will also be responsible for monitoring sedations and general anaesthesia during patient staging, co-ordinating the daily procedures and assisting with consults. You will build strong bonds with the patients and clients, so good communication skills are essential.

Medicine is a busy and demanding discipline, yet challenging, exciting and rewarding. In this role you will work in various areas of the hospital, concentrating mainly in the imaging suite, endoscopy and ICU. You will require a high level of skills to enable the best care for our patients who are often in need of intensive care in our ICU department. As a medicine nurse you will play a diverse role in placing IV catheters, drug calculations/preparation, anaesthesia, and sedation monitoring during procedures, advanced imaging, transfusion medicine, emergency and critical care. The salary will range from £22,908-£26,633.

It is a busy discipline in which we all support each other’s physical and mental capacity ensuring we are getting the best out of each other. With medicine/ oncology being so varied, there is always scope to progress and expand your knowledge. This is achieved by sharing practical skill opportunities i.e. placing central lines or anaesthesia of challenging case along with attending or presenting the occasional short presentation/CPD on chosen subjects. Cases can be discussed within the team and with the interns and residents.

Required skills and experience….

1. Registered Veterinary Nurse
2. Referrals and Small Animal Experience
3. Be able to organise and prioritise
4. Professional, confident, eager to learn new skills.
5. Hardworking and with an interest in oncology and medicine.

Would be good to have….

1. Experience in a busy hospital environment
2. Experience with urinary catheters, feeding tubes etc
3. Proven team working skills
4. Drive to develop your professional knowledge
5. Further veterinary nurse qualifications or evidence of continuous development
