Vet Surgeon – Cutting Edge Training Programme

Up to £58,000 plus benefits

Cutting Edge – the start of a rewarding career in Emergency & Critical Care

At Vets Now, we are committed to the development of the next generation of the veterinary profession. That’s why we heavily invest in our induction programmes to support new Vet Surgeons in discovering a route into emergency practice. With CPD-led training, Cutting Edge is designed for Vet Surgeons looking to take their first steps into ECC and will equip you with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in emergency practice.

We invest in your development with 300 hours of free CPD

Delivered by world renowned experts in their field over a ten-week period, Cutting Edge combines lectures, interactive seminars, practical training and surgery including the opportunity to work alongside experienced ECC clinicians for four weeks. The programme is a great way for you to meet likeminded Vet Surgeons and expand your network of emergency clinicians. Topics covered are both clinical and professional and include but are not limited to:

  • Approach to cardiac emergencies
  • Approach to neurological emergencies
  • Approach to reproductive emergencies
  • Approach to respiratory distress
  • Approach to toxicology
  • Approach to trauma
  • Communication
  • Emergency diagnostics including blood gas analysis and blood smears
  • Managing shock and fluid therapy
  • Surgical and medical case reviews
  • CPR practical
  • Surgery practical
  • Ultrasound practical

A diverse caseload and a work-life balance

Upon completion of the training programme, you will work a 40-hour week over an average of 3 shifts, ideal for maximising a work-life balance. The rota includes a share of weekday nights, weekends, bank holidays and no more than three shifts in a row. Vets Now handles the largest emergency and critical care caseload in Europe and you will see a diverse range of both medical and surgical cases - an ideal opportunity for development and learning beyond the Cutting Edge programme.

Expansion, innovation and opportunity

Due to the continued expansion of our network of clinics and the exponential growth of our caseload, we are excited to announce we have created full time opportunities across the UK as part of our commitment to the Cutting Edge training programme.

Company

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from 55 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our three hospitals — in Glasgow, Manchester and Swindon — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
