Passionate about pets? We need you!

At Hertford Vets4Pets, we’re proud to do things a little differently. Quite simply, we put the needs of every pet above all else. In every situation, the pet always comes first, and every decision that we make is entirely focused on giving pets the best quality of life. It is this philosophy that has ensured we have an incredible reputation locally, and has made our practice so in-demand. In fact, we are a victim of our own success, as the need for our services is continuing to rise – and as such, we have an exciting opportunity to join us as a Veterinary Surgeon.

The location of our practice is quite unique, as we are based inside a popular Pets at Home store, so we are constantly surrounded by those who are passionate about giving their pets a little extra TLC. Many of our clients have been with us since we first opened in 2015, and we enjoy a high degree of repeat business. This means that we have established fantastic relationships not only with our human clients, but with their much-loved pets too – and in turn we are determined to reciprocate their loyalty with a compassionate and high-quality service. This begins the very first time we meet a new patient, as we always schedule a 30-minute consultation so that we can get a thorough understanding of the general wellbeing and future challenges faced by that particular pet.

With most of our cases involving pets who are insured, we have the means with which to address every conceivable challenge. This is further enhanced by a broad range of skills within the practice, including Partner Marina who has a specialist interest in Soft Tissue Surgery and Oncology, plus the most exceptional Nurses and support staff who are behind our Vets every step of the way. If you are interested in joining this incredible team, then you will be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon with well-developed medical and surgical skills and the capacity to work with a highly varied caseload. As a team player who enjoys delivering the highest levels of patient and client care, we will expect you to be a strong communicator, and you will have the confidence to be sole charge. If you have an interest in imaging or internal medicine, that would be a huge bonus, but it is not essential to your success in our team.

Of course, we also appreciate that our team will do their best possible work if they have found a genuinely satisfying work-life balance. This begins with the hours that are on offer, including the scope to join us in either a full time or a part-time capacity. With no out-of-hours work or the need to be on-call, you will work one Saturday every other week and you will have time off in lieu. You will also enjoy a competitive salary and a contributory pension scheme, with a generous CPD allowance and paid memberships including RCVS. Majorly funded private healthcare is also on offer and you will have various company discounts and rewards.

While the practice is based at the Madford Retail Park (which is on the doorstep of the main train and bus stations), it goes without saying that the lovely market town of Hertford is an incredible place in which to live. Set within the leafy borough of Hertfordshire, we benefit from a fun town environment that is enhanced by great shopping, dining, and socialising opportunities, while also being surrounded by the countryside. Whether you were looking for good schools for your children, incredible outdoor pursuits or a buzzing social life for yourself, Hertford offers it all.

Locally owned practices with a world of support

At Vets for Pets we’re a network of practices that are owned and managed by the practice owners that run them. Because they’re locally owned, each practice has the freedom to serve patients and clients the way it thinks is best.

But crucially, being locally-owned also means enjoying a truly team-spirited atmosphere. We want all our colleagues to build lasting relationships with practice owners and team members as well as patients and clients.

And because we’re also part of a wider group, you’ll get all the support you need when you need it. That means state-of-the-art facilities, high quality CPD, financial stability and a real sense of job security.

With our framework, we’ve made it simpler and easier for you to help patients and clients live happier, healthier lives together. It’s about making the most of your expertise and bringing this to life in practise while being safe in the knowledge that you’re looked after too. Simply put, we offer locally owned practices with a world of support.

Flexibility & Wellbeing
You tell us which hours you want to work, and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. With us, you could enjoy a better work-life balance where flexibility and wellbeing come first.

Training & Development
We offer great training programmes, plus fully funded CPD, leadership courses and access to our group’s learning curriculum. We’ll also support you if you’re interested in owning a practice. With our wealth of resources, it’s easy to build your skills and develop your career.

Local Practices
With us, no two practices are the same. We’re deeply rooted in our local communities and we want you to really get to know your patients and clients locally.

Being part of the Pets At Home Group
Being part of Vets for Pets means you’ll be part of our network of locally owned practices. Our practices are located across the country and are owned and run by our Joint Venture Partners (JVPs). Our Joint Venture Partnership model is unique and gives everyone the best of both worlds. Working within one of our practices you’ll get to work with the JVP who has the clinical freedom and autonomy to do things their own way.

As we’re part of a large respected organisation you’ll also enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider PLC Group. This means we can give you greater stability and job security during these uncertain times and beyond.

What’s more, we’ve worked hard to make sure everyone in our group can take part in a fun, friendly, professional and inclusive culture that allows you to bring your whole self to work and be at your very best.
