Job Details

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and committed Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team. Your duties would include consultations, surgeries, client call-backs, prescriptions, in-patient care and work-ups and occasional house visits. The working pattern is 4 weekdays 8:45am – 19:00pm and a Saturday morning 8:45am-12:30pm on a roster, currently 1:3. There are no out-of-hours or bank holiday duties. Some flexibility in shifts or days may be considered. Salary range £38,000 - £47,000 dependent on experience.

About Us

We are a small but busy practice located in St. Leonards-on Sea. We have digital x-ray, ultrasound, dedicated theatre suite and separate kennels and cattery. We have a full team of RVN's, SVN's and receptionists, several who have been with the practice for many years. We opened in 2009 and have grown rapidly through recommendations from clients, resulting in an above average client to vet ratio.

We are close to the sea, with its long promenade, and the local town has many historic sites, outdoor activities and a variety of restaurants. There is a thriving arts scene and several festivals are held each year, including seafood and wine, Jack in the Green, bonfire night and the annual Mayday bike run for thousands of motorbikes who descend on the town.

We currently have 3 veterinary Surgeons, 1 who is a Cardiology certificate holder, 3 RVN's, 2 SVN's and 3 support staff. We are looking for a vet who is keen to bring their own ideas to the team but also adaptable to ours. Ideally you will be comfortable with all routine surgeries, medical work-ups and consultations and confident to work in a busy practice environment. You must be passionate about pet care and willing to work with clients to ensure their pets get the best care possible within any constraints they may have. We work with a couple of local charities and are part of the RSPCA Neutering Scheme for cats and bull-breeds.

Applicant Requirements

We ideally need a Veterinary Surgeon experienced in all areas of general practice, as unfortunately we do not currently have sufficient support for a new graduate or newly qualified Vet. You must be RCVS registered and have a positive can do attitude. Essential skills include competency in all routine surgeries and dentistry, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and being a team player. Desirable skills are an interest in orthopaedics or dentistry and being keen to develop themselves and the practice. You must have exceptional bedside manner and be a proactive team player.

Benefits (subject to pro rata)

•             Enhanced holiday entitlement and increasing holiday based on length of service

•             CPD paid days and allowance

•             L&D opportunities through the IVC Evidensia Academy

•             Enhanced family friendly policies, including maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental and surrogacy pay

•             Private Medical Insurance

•             BVA Membership paid

•             VDS cover

•             Birthday leave

•             Discounted veterinary fees

•             Various discounts including retail & gym memberships

•             Cycle to Work scheme

•             Service related company sick pay

•             Sponsorship for overseas employees

•             Initiatives focussed on employee wellbeing

•             Relocation packages

•             Career progression opportunities

•             Free flu jabs
