Job Details

Brookmead Veterinary Surgery is an independent, small animal 1st opinion practice based in Cranleigh, Surrey.

We want to expand our team with a third vet to join our current team of two highly experienced, friendly vets. Preferably we are looking for someone with a minimum of 3-4 years experience, however all applicants will be viewed on their merits so less experience may be considered for the right candidate.

The position will be full-time, (ave. 38 hours per week). Working hours will be between 9am and 7pm Monday to Friday with at least one half day per week (shift patterns will vary) plus 1 in 3 Saturday mornings 9am-12pm). OOH is covered by VetsNow.

Your role will include all aspects of general 1st opinion practice including consultations, surgery and medical cases. We have a range of up to date equipment including endoscopy, ultrasound, digital x-ray and lab equipment. There is also potential for very exciting career progression within the practice for the right candidate.

If you are currently feeling like you are overwhelmed and desperately in need of a change then this is the job for you! Whether it's the long hours, the relentless pace, lack of breaks, lack of staff or possibly you just feel unsupported in your current position we can make a difference to you.

At Brookmead we believe in a healthy work-life balance and feel very strongly about working with our staff to ensure their mental and physical wellbeing. Collaboration between veterinary colleagues is welcomed and you will be supported by a fantastic team of qualified nurses and experienced administrative staff. Your day will consist of a mix of both consulting and operating, with a sensible amount of time factored in for all the admin that inevitably comes with any veterinary role. We also recognize the importance of 'downtime' so lunch breaks are rigidly enforced so come and join us for a better work-life balance, better working conditions and better job satisfaction.

If you are looking to relocate to the area we are able to offer accommodation in the form of a self-contained 2 bed flat above the practice.

Company

The history of Brookmead Veterinary Surgery in Cranleigh goes back over 50 years. During and after the Second World War it was operating from Pittance Farm on Smithwood Common and was an agricultural and equine practice run by Mr J Craft.

Later the veterinary practice relocated to Broadoak and in 1963 it moved across the road to the present site. By now it was trading as A.G.Berry & W.Miller, Veterinary Surgeons.

During the 1970s and 1980s the small animal side of the practice expanded. In 1980 Mr Miller retired, Mike Harrison took over and the practice continued to go from strength to strength as Berry and Harrison, with Mr Berry as consultant.

The practice changed its name to Brookmead Veterinary Surgery in the early 1990s and Neil Coode joined the team and became a partner in 1996. In 2007 Neil Horton became a partner and then in 2010 Mike Harrison and his wife Christine (who was Office Manager) retired.

The present building dates from the late 1800s when it was built as the doctor's house and surgery with stables to house his pony and trap. It includes a number of old features such as a bread oven in the kitchen and oak panelling in the waiting room.

Our long history gives our practice well established roots in the local community, and we still believe in the same "old fashioned" customer service values on which the practice was founded, adding the latest in modern veterinary medical science to provide a complete package of care for your pets.
