Open-ended/Part time - 15 hours/week, working Mondays and Tuesdays  

We are looking for an enthusiastic registered Veterinary Nurse to join our expanding orthopaedic service, which delivers world-leading, specialist-led care for companion animals. 

The Opportunity:

Our Orthopaedic Surgery Service is comprised of three Specialists, four trainee surgeons, three surgical interns, and over 20 nursing and support staff. We have state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities and work closely with the REPAIR Centre to optimise our assessments and postoperative rehabilitation, and with internationally renowned colleagues in Anaesthesia, Neurology and Diagnostic Imaging to provide the very highest standards of care.

This role involves assisting our orthopaedic surgical team manage complex cases and carrying out administrative duties for the orthopaedic service. You will get the opportunity to be immersed in specialist procedures and provide an excellent level of care for our veterinary patients. You will play a key role in the care of our orthopaedic patients during their hospitalisation both in and out of theatre. You will also be involved with the teaching of veterinary undergraduates as they rotate through the orthopaedic service.

Successful candidates will participate in a one weekend shift per 4 weeks on a shared rota, overtime accrued for additional shift cover.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  •             Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
  •             Keen on all aspects of surgical and theatre nursing
  •             Detail orientated with excellent communication skills.

William Dick was an outstanding practitioner who made great strides in establishing veterinary education in Scotland. Besides setting up the School in 1823, he was appointed Veterinary Surgeon in Scotland to Queen Victoria in 1844.

By the time of his death in 1866, the 818 students he had taught were to be found throughout the world. Among them were the founders of veterinary schools in Glasgow, Liverpool, Ireland, Canada, the USA and Australia.

Clyde Street Veterinary College
In the autumn of 1829 William Dick’s lectures were given in Clyde Street, probably in the old building at number 8. It was in Clyde Street that Dick first trained as a farrier at his father's forge.
