Part of Vets Now 24/7 Emergency and Speciality Hospitals

We are recruiting for Avian and Exotic Interns at our Swindon Exotic animal specialty hospital. Great Western Exotics is a seven vet 100% exotic animal practice and the case load includes Avian, Small mammal, Reptile and multiple zoological collections.

The hospital is undergoing an exciting period of full renovation, due to complete October 2021, and is enviously equipped with four dedicated exotic animal wards, two theatres, computer tomography, fluoroscopy, both rigid/flexible endoscopy, ultrasonography and radiography suits.

Great Western Exotics has a long established post graduate training programme, running the only ECZM(avian) training programme in the UK, and several previous Interns have taken this route. Interns will experience a wide range of avian and exotic cases readying them for exotic animal practice or the ECZM residency program. The internship is a structured over one year and there will be opportunity to study towards the CertAVP Zoological Medicine.

Interns will be expected to participate in an out-of-hours rota, including weekends.

Candidates will be considered from both a practice and small animal rotating internship background. Exceptional new graduates will be considered.

If English is your second language you must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing. You must also be, or eligible to be, a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Start date is 1 February 2022.

Company

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from 55 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our three hospitals — in Glasgow, Manchester and Swindon — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
