Job Details

New or recent graduate required

Are you looking to develop as a veterinarian without the frenetic nature of modern practice?

Health Lodge Vets are a fiercely independent, single centre RCVS accredited, small animal practice in the heart of the historic St Albans city. We are looking to add a veterinarian to our friendly, established and highly experienced team of three vets and five nurses (with a collective 36 years vet experience and 46 years nurse experience).

We are looking to increase our team, allowing us to focus on why we became vets - individual case continuity, professional development and life outside of practice.

Need support? We love discussing approaches to cases and do not ever want our vets to feel like they are alone. We are always available to support our colleagues.

The working hours allow you to have time to relax - you will get a regular half day off per week. The rota includes a 1 in 3 Saturday morning appointment only surgery with an extra Monday half day and Friday off the following week.

Don’t believe us? Look at our google reviews!

We offer:

  • Competitive salary according to experience.
  • No out of hours (provided by the RVC’s excellent QMH)
  • 5 weeks holiday/year
  • 5 days paid CPD/year
  • All routine equipment, e.g. ultrasound, radiographs, tonometry, multi-parameter etc.

Company

There has been a veterinary practice at Heath Lodge since 1904 when the majority of veterinary patients would have been working horses.

As you enter Heath Lodge at the main entrance you will notice two large double doors to your left. These are the original doors to the coach house.

During the 1950s, Heath Lodge was owned and run by two veterinary surgeons, Arthur Shenton and Tom Dean. By the 1980s, Mr Shenton had retired and Tom Dean was joined by his son, Stephen, who currently remains as Principal of the practice.

Up until 2001, Heath Lodge was a “mixed” practice caring for farm animals and horses in the area as well as cats, dogs and other family pets. However, due to the gradual decline of farming in South Hertfordshire, it was decided that Heath Lodge would dedicate itself to the care of “companion” animals (cats, dogs, rabbits and other small pets).
