The Practice

An exciting opportunity to be part of the growth of our expanding independently owned practice in the beautiful Cotswolds.   We are a progressive, non-corporate Veterinary Hospital boasting high clinical standards with 24hour patient care delivered by our own vets and nurses. With the recent acquisition of another building on the High Street in Malmesbury, there will be opportunities for the Hospital to expand its services even further over the coming 12 months.

We are based in the heart of Malmesbury and are one of the largest employers in the town being part of the wider George Veterinary Group.

The Role

This opportunity provides a wide and varied case load and is based at our tier 3 veterinary hospital in Malmesbury. In addition, our team has 3 clinics in close proximity to the main hospital at Nailsworth, Tetbury and Royal Wootton Bassett.

At The George Veterinary Hospital, we expect our Registered Nurses to:

  • Be registered with the RCVS
  • Promote clinical excellence and provide a high standard of patient and client care
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have the ability to work autonomously in both individual and team environments
  • Assist in all nursing duties with emphasis on patient/client experience
  • Be accepting of delegated individual responsibilities
  • Be current and up to date with Continual Professional Development (CPD)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across all teams and clients- both verbally and written
  • Assist the Veterinary Surgeon with diagnostic/surgical/medical procedures, consultations and during house visits
  • Monitor and Record Anaesthesia- following practice protocol
  • Run the Hospital Wards– i.e. medicating, intra-venous catheter placement, blood sampling, regular patient checks and general nursing duties under veterinarian instruction.
  • Admit and Discharge patients – following practice protocol
  • Preparation of Equipment, Patient and Environment – for surgical, diagnostic, anaesthetic and medical procedures Running Nurse Clinics –including triage, first aid, weight clinics and puppy parties General
  • Cleaning Duties – provide effective infection control for all clinical areas and equipment. To undertake equipment sterilisation (via steam/pressure autoclave and Ethylene Oxide) and laundry duties
  • Maintaining Equipment and Clinical Areas- including servicing and repairs, stock checks and ordering of consumables.
  • Perform Diagnostic Tests on Laboratory Samples- communicate and record results following practice policy. Prepare samples for sending to external laboratories.
  • Adhere to Regulations – i.e. Schedule 3, CPD, Health and Safety, COSHH (refer to specific guidelines)
  • Assist Other Departments Within the Veterinary Practice- e.g. front of house client care duties and large animal kits

Successful Candidate

We’re looking for a an RVN who appreciates their own value in the team and enjoys the key contribution they will make in the provision of our own OOH – we have our own night nurses on the team and so there is minimal OOH required for this role. Continuity of care is important and we also seek someone who is an effective communicator both ahead of and at the end of their shifts. You’ll feel very much a part of the team here as we continue to grow together. We have some exciting plans in the pipeline to further enhance our offer and services for our much loved clients. It’s not all work though, with a team that also enjoys social opportunities outside of work.
