Job Details

We are looking for 2 Veterinary Surgeons to join our expanding team at Three Rivers Vets. This position would be 40 hours a week over 4 days, although part time applicants would be considered. Contribution to our weekend consulting rota would be expected which will be 1:6 weekends with a day off the following week in lieu. No nights or on call. The role would consist of a split between branch consulting and working as part of a larger team in the main practice allowing time for development of skills eg imaging and/or surgery if desired and inpatient care. An exclusively consulting only role could easily be accommodated. Salary from £35,000 to £60,000 depending on experience. Certificates are encouraged and fully supported. An interest in dentistry or cardiology would be a bonus but not mandatory.

These positions have become available due to one of our vets wishing to pursue a career in management and we are looking to expand our current team.

The role would consist of 2 days working at our main branch in Beccles where you would work a mixture of consulting, operating and inpatient care. Each role is roata'd for the day so you are not trying to operate/work up cases in between consults. The other 2 days would consist of consulting +/- routine surgery at 1-2 of our branch practices. A consulting only position could be arranged if you prefer not to operate. Support can also be provided in building confidence in imaging, surgery or dentistry and we always have experienced vets available to discuss challenging cases. We also have a very good relationship with our local referral practices.

Pet dogs can come to work with you.

Three Rivers Vets is a well-established first opinion small animal practice with the addition of a dedicated farm animal team. We joined IVC approximately 4 years ago and have enjoyed a smooth transition with the existing clinical directors remaining for many years to support the team through this period. We are now at the point where we have internally promoted a new clinical director team who have settled into this role and are complimented with an excellent head nurse and practice manager. The management team are looking to continue improving the practice for both staff and patients, and have found IVC incredibly supportive of this. There has always been a strong family atmosphere throughout the team at Three Rivers and we like to try and provide team building activities, fundraising for charities, social events and socialise out of work.

Three Rivers consists of the main site at Beccles where our patients are hospitalised and non-routine surgeries are performed. This site typically runs with 3-4 vets per day performing a mixture of consulting and operating. The 5 branch surgeries have all been recently renovated and offer daily consultations with 1-2 routine ops mornings at the larger branches. Branch work is normally sole charge with the ability to refer cases to Beccles for further treatment/investigation. We are well equipped with high quality ultrasound including cardiac probe and ECG, digital radiography, CT scanner, electrocautery and therapeutic K-laser. We have multi-parameter monitoring for anaesthetics and have a good range of surgical equipment including for all general orthopaedics. Dental radiography is due to be installed this year. We have 11 full time equivalent small animal vets, 10 amazing registered veterinary nurses, 2 ANAs and a fabulous reception and support team. We have a new grad academy and are a nursing training practice too.

We are a progressive and well-equipped practice. We are really striving to improve patient care alongside improving our vets and nurses career progression and job satisfaction and work-life balance. We have recently made some significant improvements to patient care by outsourcing our out of hours service to 2 local dedicated night vet services. This allows our patients to receive 24-hour care and supervision as well as reducing the workload for our vets. Alterations to our rota have also meant we can reduce our weekend consultations to 1:6 and hoping to reduce this further. We have also introduced staggered lunch breaks for the vet team and we really do try to ensure everyone gets their allocated break. Admin time is factored into the day and we run on 15-minute appointments with the ability to extend this for complex cases/euthanasias. There is always support available from senior colleagues and expanding our veterinary team will allow for our vets to pursue their own particular areas of interest. We currently have 2 medicine certificate holders with a third working towards her certificate and a surgery certificate holder. We also have a vets interested in ophthalmology and evidence-based medicine. We conduct regular practice meetings to discuss new ideas/address any issues that arise and also work towards ensuring all members of staff receive regular appraisals and 1-1 sessions. We have also recently started to participate in clinical audits and conducting SERs, utilising the RCVS Knowledge website.

Beccles is a beautiful market town on the edge of the Norfolk Broads on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, surrounded by lovely countryside and many nature reserves. Being situated in the East of East Anglia, we enjoy some of the driest and warmest weather in the UK. There are lots of great outdoor activities and wildlife to be seen.

We are looking for passionate vets with some experience and the ability to consult sole charge. We need vets who are able to work well in a large team and have excellent communication skills. We encourage our vets to retain their own cases to improve client communication and improve job satisfaction. We are looking for vets who want to share their experiences with us and look to grow with the practice. You will require a car for this position due to travelling between branches.
