Vet Surgeon

Be part of a phenomenal team

At Vets Now Preston, we have an opportunity for an experienced Vet Surgeon to join our team on a full or part time basis.

Due to our continued success and growing caseload in Preston, we will be relocating at the end of the year. This is an exciting time to join the team as they get ready for the move to a brand new purpose-built clinic.

Working as an Emergency Vet has its challenges. The caseload is diverse, and the hours can be unsociable. However, in clinic, you will have the invaluable support of our highly experienced nursing team, alongside our animal care assistants and receptionists, as well as the additional support of our Clinical Lead, and other nearby clinics.

Continual professional development

People are at the heart of what we do and that’s why we take a pioneering approach to people development. We have cemented our commitment to continuous development by heavily investing in CPD, ECC certification and coaching to give our staff the springboard they need to take their career to the next level.

Get off on the right foot

We can also offer a place on AdvantEdge, our two-week programme for experienced Vets. AdvantEdge is aimed at Vets with at least two years UK small animal or mixed practice experience, and who want to top-up their emergency medical and surgical knowledge whilst learning new techniques. The lectures on AdvantEdge are delivered virtually by diplomats in ECC, Internal Medicine and Surgery as well as experienced ECC clinicians. The programme also features mentored shifts in clinic – an ideal opportunity to work alongside an experienced emergency clinician and put into practice everything you’ve picked up on the programme.

Working out-of-hours doesn’t mean working all hours

We recognise a work/life balance is of the utmost importance and this opportunity provides great scope for clinical excellence and career development with adequate time off-shift.

Working no more than 40 hours per week for a full-time role, your rota pattern will involve a mix of weeknight shifts, weekend days or nights and a share of bank holidays.

What we can offer you

Recognising hard work is really important to us. Our employees are our greatest asset which is why we offer a first-class benefits and rewards package that includes:

  • 7 weeks pro rata annual leave
  • Your birthday as a paid day off
  • Private medical insurance
  • £1500 CPD allowance plus 35 paid hours pro rata
  • UK Standard Pension contributions – 5% Employee/3% Employer
  • Professional membership fees
  • Up to 50% discounted staff pet care
  • Death in service of two times annual salary
  • Membership of employee wellbeing programme
  • Company sick, maternity, paternity and adoption pay schemes

Company

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from 55 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our three hospitals — in Glasgow, Manchester and Swindon — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
