Job Details

We are looking for two anaesthesia interns to join us for a fixed term contract starting on 24th May 2021. In this role you can expect to work 48 hours a week (Mon - Fri) with additional on-call duties depending on your experience level. You will receive training to manage anaesthesia and sedation of varied complexity and will gain competence in skills such as applying various locoregional blocks and vascular access, just to name a few. In addition, you will receive formal and informal teaching through tutorials and case discussions throughout the program. Desire to pursue a residency in anaesthesia is not a requirement. However, this internship program is aimed at preparing the candidate for a residency and the success chance of our past anaesthesia interns in securing a residency position (ECVAA and ACVAA) has been excellent.

Pride Veterinary Centre is the central small animal hospital for the Scarsdale Veterinary Group, a multi-species practice employing over 300 staff across 12 sites in the Midlands. At Pride we offer specialist services in anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, oncology, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology, exotics and dermatology and on-site hydrotherapy and physiotherapy. The state-of-the-art hospital provides 24/7 veterinary care, supported by a dedicated night team. We work closely with the University of Nottingham, with the veterinary students rotating through first opinion and referral services at Pride.

We are located at the edge of Derby city centre with good transport links to major cities via road and rail network. East Midlands Airport and Birmingham International Airport offer convenient access to domestic and international destinations. The beautiful Peak District is just around the corner. Pride Veterinary Centre is a large, purpose built, state of the art referral hospital in Derby. The facilities include thirteen consultation rooms, seven hospital wards, five theatres, two ultrasound rooms, a cardiology suite, an advanced imaging suite with CT and MRI, interventional radiology capability, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool and treadmills, a dedicated chemotherapy room, and radioiodine treatment rooms.

The applicant should have 1 - 2 years of clinical experience in general practice (preferably small animal) or have taken part in a rotating internship. You must be a member of the RCVS prior to working in the UK. Additional desired skills are proficiency in English, good communication skills, punctuality, ability to work and think under pressure, good interpersonal skills and passion for anaesthesia.

As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.
