A rare and exciting opportunity has come up for a qualified Veterinary Surgeon to join an expanding 10 Vet, multi-site practice that takes great pride in looking after their team.

This is a rare opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established multi-site practice of over 30 years. The main and original site is in Durham, with two additional branches within a 20 minute drive.
Durham is one of the most picturesque cities in the UK boasting historic attractions and surrounded by beautiful countryside along with modern restaurants, bars and shops.

As the practice take such good care of their team, it is not often a vacancy pops up here. The team currently consists 10 full time vets and 1 part time, led by the Clinical Director who has been with the practice for over 15 years.
The CD holds a GP Certificate in Exotics, the highly skilled lead surgeon within the team is studying towards a Certificate, and the lead medicine vet is studying towards a Certificate in Behaviour.

Supporting the vet team are 7 RVNs, 3 of which have been with the practice almost 20 years, and 1 SVN.

The main site is well equipped for surgery and consultations and includes 2 ops rooms, a central prep area, digital x ray, cat ward, dog ward, exotics ward, recovery ward, 3 soon to be 4 consult rooms, one of which is currently being developed into a dedicated euthanasia room. Along with all the usual veterinary toys there is endoscopy, bronchoscopy and the practice are happy to consider new equipment if a vet has used it in the past and feels it would be useful for practice.


Key Duties
The role is advertised as 36 hours over four days with nine hour days - however this includes a paid one hour lunch break which the practice fully encourage everyone to take.

This includes 1 in 4 weekends which are 8:30am - 6:30pm. Although these are the advertised hours, the practice are very supportive and inclusive of personal circumstances so can be flexible on rota to suit you.

Although the practice use an OOH provider they do sometimes keep inpatients if the animal is too poorly to go home but not critical, however this is quite rare. Consultations are 15 minutes as standard with half an hour blocks for exotics, euthanasia, and more complex cases.

There is some flexibility in terms of surgical/medicine split however typically vets will have one full surgical day with the rest of the week consulting.
Typically you will spend three days a week at the main site and one day at one of the branches per week.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Client Requirements
Ideally you will be confident in routine consulting and surgery. Being comfortable with sole charge and an exotics interests would be beneficial but not essential.
