Veterinary Surgeon required at Martin Veterinary Centre in Glasgow

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join our fantastic team here at Martin Veterinary Centre.

Our vets split their working week between consulting, operating and medicine investigations as well as some administration tasks. Our rota is designed to allow a good quality of life with evening surgeries and Saturdays equally shared.

While confident surgical skills are important, we recognise that some vets are more confident in managing medicine cases.

About Us

We are a single site practice based in a modern, design award winning building overlooking the Forth and Clyde Canal. Kirkintilloch is located only 10 minutes from the centre of Glasgow. We have 4 well appointed, air-conditioned consulting rooms which are serviced by an airy waiting room and a central pharmacy area. We have separate dog and cat wards which are also air conditioned as well as an isolation area.

Our operating facilities comprise a central prep room and lab area, 2 operating theatres, a dedicated dental room and diagnostic imaging room. Our lab area has a biochemistry and haematology machines as well as a modern microscope. Digital x-ray and ultrasound as well as endoscopy are also available in-house.

There is additional office space for use by the vets.

We are currently a 6 vet, 5 nurse practice supported by an excellent reception and back room team. One of our vets holds a ESVPS certificate in small animal surgery. We encourage our team to develop interests with an aim to create a rounded range of expertise for our clients. We take pride in having a very strong team ethos and enjoy working on cases together while allowing space to work on cases individually when wanted.

We recognise and foster the fact that good communication and honesty with clients is critical.

We provide all the veterinary care for the only Cats Protection Adoption Centre in Scotland treating several hundred cats annually.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for an additional experienced vet to take on a range of consulting and operating roles. A candidate with a particular interest would be considered, especially if it leads to an increased scope of services available to our clients. Good client relationship and interpersonal skills are essential.

Company

Our practice has been established in Kirkintilloch for over 35 years.

The practice has gradually expanded from a 2 vet to a 7 vet, 4 nurse practice with a total workforce of 17.

Due to an ever increasing number of clients from an ever expanding radius the practice outgrew its original premises at Townhead, Kirkintilloch and after a long search we found the ideal location at Southbank Marina in the heart of Kirkintilloch.

The practice was awarded top prize at the 2015 UK Practice Design Awards earning the practice associate membership of the British Veterinary Hospitals Association and placing it alongside previous winners such as Glasgow University Small Animal Hospital.

Our award-winning new vet centre is two and a half times larger than our previous clinic allowing us to deliver the very best care to the animals and clients of our community.

We care passionately about our community and actively support local charities and organisations.

We provide all the veterinary services for the only Cats Protection adoption centre in Scotland, treating several hundred homeless cats annually. Our vets give educational talks to local schools and nurseries and encourage and mentor the many vet students who engage in work experience with is as part of their training.

We are not a corporate practice and we do not operate to targets controlled by a larger company and we do not believe in gimmicks.

We work hard to develop a trusting relationship with our clients. Our veterinary team believe in treating every patient and client as an individual, providing treatment tailored specifically to their own requirements.
