Veterinary Nurse – Emergency and Critical Care (ECC)

Grade UE05, salary range: £23,067-£26,715 (pro rata)

College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine - Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies - Hospital for Small Animals

Full time, open contract, 35 hours + 2.5 hours contractual overtime per week
Shifts are Monday-Friday 8.30am-5pm (1-hour unpaid lunch)

We are looking for a registered veterinary nurse who is passionate about providing state-of-the-art nursing for critically ill and emergent patients at the Hospital for Small Animals (HfSA). It is a very exciting time for our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) team, as we have recently opened an Emergency Room to complement our busy ICU.

The Opportunity:
Our team of Critical Care Specialist nurses and clinicians see cases which require immediate intervention and stabilisation, as well as offering consultations for referring vets on emergency cases.

We have a dedicated, continually-staffed Intensive Care Unit which ensures we provide the highest level of care to patients with life-threatening conditions. This Unit includes advanced climate-controlled oxygen cages. We were the first veterinary hospital in the United Kingdom to provide High Flow Nasal Oxygen therapy for patients with higher oxygen requirements.

Our extensive in-house laboratory facilities, imaging facilities and advanced haemodynamic monitoring capabilities, allow for a rapid diagnosis to be made and treatment to be implemented. Close collaboration with other services within the hospital ensures that each patient gets the best possible care at all times.

Your skills and attributes for success:
•    The jobholder must be an RCVS registered veterinary nurse (RVN).
•    Relevant experience in nursing is essential.
•    Prior experience working within either a veterinary emergency care setting, ICU, or referral hospital is essential- however, full internal training will also be provided.
•    Proactive work ethic and excellent communication skills are essential

If you have any questions, please direct them to Emily Gorman, Senior Emergency and Critical Care RVN: emily.gorman@ed.ac.uk
