We are looking for an experienced out of hours Veterinary Surgeon with strong surgical skills who is used to being in sole charge and capable of meeting the challenges of an out of hours role. You will be working with a dedicated out of hours veterinary nurse. The shift starts at 7pm in the evening, there will be a patient handover from the day vet and a chance to admit patients from member practices. You will see less patients than in a typical out of hours position because we aim to give extremely high standards of care. There is back up available for busy times with opportunity for rest breaks and we would expect you to be able to sleep most nights. We cover emergency work for 12 to 13 full time vet equivalents. The night shift ends at 8.30am. At weekends, there are some day shifts available from 8.30am to 7.30pm. Saturday shifts involves a small number of consultations from 9am to midday, thereafter you will concentrate on emergency work.
We are a friendly RCVS accredited small animal hospital and have been awarded outstanding in all 6 practice standard awards. We work to extremely high standards of patient care with separate cat and dog wards. We have in house laboratory and laparoscopic equipment, we also have flexible bronchoscope. We run a cardiology referral service therefore have excellent ECG ultrasound and X-ray equipment. You will be working with an experienced dedicated out of hours nurse.
Ideally you will already have had experience working in an out of hours or emergency critical care role and will be committed to offering gold standard care to patients, clients and member practices.
