Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated veterinary surgeon to join our team. The position is full time, working 4 full days 8.30am to 5.30pm plus one half day a week. The rota is shared 1:6 for weekend and weeknight duties. All veterinary surgeons have the opportunity to consult, perform medical work ups & surgeries and spend time on the road with a nurse on different days. We are happy to accommodate specific interests, e.g. some vets perform more surgery and others more consultations, other vets prefer to be out on the road more.

The vets work together to decide on where they would like to focus their attention. We are blessed with lovely clients, and a lovely team. We focus on quality of care rather than quantity. 15 minute consults. CT scanner, laparoscopic surgery, video endoscopy, (training/CPD in all if interested) and loads of support from a very experienced team. We have 7 vets, some part time and some full time. These include an endoscopy and a CertAVP certificate holder. Our team is also comprised of 5 RVNs and several support staff plus a practice manager. We view our practice as happy, relaxed and welcoming. We all love what we do and feel privileged to be trusted with the care of the Islanders' pets. Our team cares, listens and supports each other working together to help provide the very best of customer care.

We have a very strong focus on looking after each other and ensuring a good work:life balance and we look after our team very well, ensuring team members finish on time and have ample time off to enjoy all the Island has to offer, including surfing ,sailing, walking, cycling, foraging, etc. The Island is a very safe place to be both during Covid 19 and more normal times. Our team are integral in helping us continue to strive to be the best for our clients and patients and we focus on championing good mental and physical health; whilst maintaining awareness of the importance of family commitments to staff with children. In addition and looking ahead there are significant prospects for the right vet to become a more integral part of the business in a directors role.

The team is a friendly bunch, hoping to form lasting and genuine partnerships with all clients and pets. We endeavour to approach every conversation with openness, warmth and honesty. Doing the right thing is fundamentally important to us – we work hard to keep our training and development up to date and we invest in the best equipment.

The Island offers easy access to London by train. Beautiful coastal scenery with several excellent restaurants and pubs which the team often samples during our regular social events! We support local charities and take our wider responsibilities seriously, recycling everything we can and actively reducing waste. We are also proud to be a water refill station and we love our insects too, as a Bee-Friendly practice

We always push the boundaries and ensure we are thinking about new ideas to challenge the current status quo in the veterinary industry, striving to be leaders and not followers and taking pride in being different from the rest so we can continue to provide the very best of care for our patients.

Preferably you will have experience as a veterinary surgeon in clinical practice. We would welcome candidates that are happy to work flexibly in a team environment and who are keen to enhance their skillset with additional CPD, including endoscopic surgery and advanced diagnostic imaging such as CT scans and ultrasound. Above all we look for enthusiasm and happiness in our team members.

Company

Dan is an IOW local having grown up in Wootton Bridge and attending school at Ryde High School. On finishing his A-levels, he attended Bristol Vet School and after graduating in 2005 he joined a mixed practice in Wiltshire, where he worked for a few years before returning to the Island with his wife Kirsty (who just happens to be a veterinary nurse!)

Kirsty is a professionally qualified Veterinary Nurse with 10 years experience. She has always strived to provide excellent care for all animals whether under anaesthesia or in hospital, she loves the personal touch and providing the TLC that’s required. Kirsty has obtained additional qualifications to better herself and is registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) meaning that you can stay content that your pets are under the very best of care when in her hands.

The surgery has been custom designed by Kirsty and Dan from scratch.

The interior houses heated kennels for comfortable recovery of patients immediately post surgery prior to them being returned to their home. Sliding out from beneath the kennel is a veterinary walk on scales which will accurately weight patients up to 200kg.

The vehicle has been designed with operations in mind. To this effect there is a wall mounted anaesthetic machine with oxygen and all the necessary monitoring equipment, to include pulse oximetry (assessing oxygenation of patients), blood pressure monitoring equipment and more!

All the necessary surgical tools and consumables are housed in the built in cupboards where, carefully stowed are our analysis machines and microscope amongst other laboratory/diagnostic equipment to help diagnose our patients ailments whilst on the move.

Also neatly contained within the mobile surgery is a dental machine with polisher and scaler to keep your pets teeth in pristine condition.

The onboard dispensary ensures that we have medication at hand, be it flea/worm treatment or more specific prescription medication. Anything we do not have can be obtained the very next day for you.

Roaming internet and access to veterinary software allows us to keep our patients records at our fingertips, whilst a mobile card machine makes payment quick and convenient for our clients.

Being mobile we do not have a direct electricity source so kindly request access to a standard plug socket to plug into the mobile surgery, although we have a back up generator for use as necessary.
