Job Details

We are looking for a part-time vet to join our team. There is huge flexibility in the schedule so rather than state certain days or hours, we’d rather know what your needs are first, and then discuss if we can accommodate them. Chances are, we can!

We believe that it is possible to have a good work-life balance AND work to a high standard, and that neither must be sacrificed for the other.

At our independent practice Elston Vets, everyone works together to take the best care of our patients, our clients, and each other. We are committed to ensuring that every member of the practice team feels valued, and knows that they matter.

We focus on our people, because we know that if we look after our team, we will have a successful business. And if we have a successful business, we have a happy and well rewarded team!

We believe in helping everyone on our team stay healthy, both physically (our COVID protocols have worked so far!) and mentally. So - work breaks, good open communication, safety protocols, and meditation apps are part of our culture. We hold regular practice meetings, and team meetings.

Both autonomy and individual contribution of ideas is always welcomed, a benefit of our Independent status. We have systems in place to capture those great ideas. Our Continuous Improvement system allows us to explore better ways to care for clients and their pets, and each other, and gives every team member a chance to contribute. We are also implementing the Training Progress system, to improve and maintain the consistency of our service.

We have our purpose in well-balanced, gold-standard work, constantly aiming for best practice.  We are always looking for better ways of doing things; that learning is stimulating. We feel we have learned a lot from the pandemic, and are optimistic and stronger for it.

You will provide a blend of consulting and surgical/in-patient care. The exact structure of your day will depend on your level of experience, any additional skills, and areas of special interest.

There are no OOH requirements except a 1 in 3 Saturday morning (9 – 12.30) consulting.

This is a permanent position, however, if you are a locum we’d also love to hear from you.

This role would suit someone with an interest in good quality medicine and who enjoys and is competent in basic soft tissue surgery.  A Certificate holder would be hugely welcomed, also we would be happy to support Certificate training.

We want to help everyone enjoy their work as much as possible, and to have the opportunity to improve their skills. We have enthusiasm for learning, and for supporting growth professionally and personally. A CPD allowance is an essential part of our practice, and it is what keeps us motivated and able to continually improve the service to our clients. To provide the best for our patients requires staying up to date with current knowledge.

In addition to the backup of the friendly vet team at Elston Vets, you will be supported by our referral service provided by the Vet-CT telemedicine team with their superb specialists.

We are well-equipped with DR radiology, recently upgraded Sonoscape ultrasound, multi-parameter anaesthetic monitors, surgical electrocautery, MLS Class 4 laser, and a well-resourced lab.

We offer a generous salary dependent on experience.

Our USP is being kind to our patients, and using methods to reduce fear in patients when visiting us is massively satisfying, and is very important to us.

The nursing team are supportive and friendly, and embrace FearFree methods. Our nurses are highly valued and run successful nursing clinics (as COVID allows). We are currently a VNTC.

The receptionist team are experienced and look after our clients exceptionally well. As a result of that caring attitude, we have quite friendly clients!

We are in a beautiful location in Wiltshire, with green fields and paths all around. We are also very accessible to the South Coast, Bath, Bristol, and an easy train journey to London. Charming Salisbury is our nearest city.

If this sounds like a good fit and you are interested in joining our lovely team, please get in touch for a chat.

All the members of our team are highly valued, united by the common purpose to provide the best possible care of our patients and clients. We have a Continuous Improvement System in place where the team can actively contribute to the practice via regular team meetings, allowing us to achieve our purpose. We appreciate and support each other.

Good communication skills are essential for all team members, and to achieve a consistently high level of client satisfaction. We have 15 minute appointments, enabling us to focus on the client experience at our practice.

Our receptionists and nurses are exceptional and motivated. We are a VNTP and our nurses run clinics and puppy socials, as well as our HPC; all are integral to the practice.

The practice is in an idyllic country location close to Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge and the historic city of Salisbury. We are also within easy reach of the South Coast and London. We endorse a good life/work balance, knowing our own well-being is essential for providing the standards of care we desire.
