Job Details

Cornish Paws is seeking full or part-time veterinary surgeons to join its small, independent team based in Penryn, Cornwall. The practice has been running for nearly two years and has expanded quickly with a strong local reputation.

The role is ideally suited to experienced vets looking to work two to four days a week and a share of the weekend rota. Level of experience is flexible as the practice can support further learning either in-house or with external qualifications. There is genuine freedom to work up cases properly whilst encouraging case discussions amongst the team.

We recognise a shortage of experienced vets and offer very generous salary as well as a genuinely nice place to work where we can do the best for our patients and feel valued for doing so. This is a rare opportunity to move away from all the problems of corporate ownership and get back to working in a vets like it used to be. There is also genuine partnership prospects in the future.

The Practice

Our practice is well equipped and light and spacious. We are lucky to have great caring clients that trust our advice and are happy to work up and treat cases properly. We try and keep our prices fair and encourage open and honest discussions with clients about treatment options and costs involved. We strive for continuity and to allow enough time for consultations and procedures, so the working day is enjoyable and rewarding.

We are in one of the most beautiful parts of the world with so much coastline and nature to explore for all interests. The water sports opportunities here are outstanding and we have surfers, sailors and kitesurfers within our team.

The practice was setup having got frustrated at working in corporately owned surgeries. We didn’t want any targets pushing more treatments or procedures than are best for the patient. We didn’t want to continue to see prices spiral beyond affordability. We didn’t want to continue to work for faceless shareholders and feel that management decisions were being made centrally.

We really felt that there was no reason we couldn’t still open and run a small independent practice where work could be enjoyable for our staff and provide the best possible care for our patients at affordable costs. This may seem idyllic, but it is working! The practice has a fantastic rate of growth exclusively down to local word of mouth recommendations. Our staff retention has been fantastic, and we really do put ourselves out to look after the team including sacking clients where appropriate.

Location

It is easy to have a look online at Falmouth online and recognise the beauty of the location and the surrounding area. We feel lucky every day to live at a holiday destination, this has become particularly apparent in the last year or so.

The Role

We are recruiting for 2-3 more vets. The working hours are flexible, and we can accommodate part or full-time positions. We are looking for caring vets with empathy for our patients and good communication with our clients. Must work well within a team and uphold our strong practice reputation. Level of experience is flexible; we can support staff wherever needed and encourage case discussions or teaching of new procedures.

Successful Candidate

Ideally we would recruit a general practitioner that has a genuine love for their patients that comes across to their owners. A calm, kind and competent vet that we can look after to ensure they get their dream job that they deserve. Any individual interests supported and encouraged.

The Package

We will offer a very generous salary for the right candidates, and this will vary with experience. We would expect to offer significantly higher rates of pay compared to corporate packages as well as offering a significantly better working environment. We recognise it is an employee market at present and as such are more than happy to offer higher salaries to secure the right candidate.
