  • To investigate in detail unusual cases of farm animal disease in collaboration with veterinary colleagues within SRUC and other specialist institutions.
  • To demonstrate a quality-driven approach to their duties with participation in management of Capital Diagnostic’s external quality assurance scheme (CQAS)
  • To consider opportunities for new tests and services including new product developments in conjunction with the senior scientists, subject to business case approval.
  • To be self-motivated to develop in the role, acquiring specialist knowledge of one or more scientific areas applicable to furthering the expertise and standing of SRUC staff in the wider veterinary and scientific community
  • To undertake research and develop initiatives with colleagues in SRUC and other institutions, contributing to the advisory, development and research effort of other departments within SRUC as required.
  • To participate in SRUC’s educational programmes relating to animal health
  • To contribute as required to SRUC’s farmer education and awareness campaigns to promote animal welfare. To participate in disease eradication and control programme being directed by the State Veterinary Service by providing full supporting laboratory services as and when required by the Scottish Government.
