Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our nursing team. The position is full time, working 4 full days 8.30am to 5.30pm plus one half day a week. The on-call rota is shared 1in 6 for weekends and one weeknight duty. We are a small, close team that prides ourselves on providing excellent nursing care to both our patients and clients. The role includes typical general practice duties, anaesthetics, assisting with surgical procedures, general nursing care, nurse consults and laser therapy together with assisting our vets on home visits.

We are blessed with lovely clients, and a lovely team. We focus on the quality of care rather than quantity. We have 15-minute consults, a CT scanner, laparoscopic surgery, video endoscopy and loads of support from a very experienced team. We have 7 Veterinary Surgeons, 5 Registered Veterinary Nurses and several support staff plus a practice manager. We view our practice as happy, relaxed, and welcoming. We all love what we do and feel privileged to be trusted with the care of the Islanders' pets. Our team cares, listens and supports each other working together to help provide the very best of customer care, understanding that we are all emotive beings that need each other’s love and support.

Our staff are integral in helping us continue to strive to be the best for our clients and patients and we focus on a good work: life balance, championing both mental and physical health; whilst maintaining awareness of the importance of family commitments to staff with children, hence early finishes and ample time off.

The Island offers easy access to London by train. Beautiful coastal scenery, walking, cycling, surfing, sailing, etc. We support local charities and take our wider responsibilities seriously. The team is a friendly bunch, hoping to form lasting and genuine partnerships with all clients and pets. We endeavour to approach every conversation with openness, warmth, and honesty. Doing the right thing is fundamentally important to us – we work hard to keep our training and development up to date and we invest in the best equipment including the building of a brand-new surgery which should begin very soon. We always push the boundaries and ensure we are thinking about new ideas to challenge the current status quo in the veterinary industry. We strive to be leaders and not followers and take pride in being different from the rest so we can continue to provide the very best of care for our patients.

Preferably you will have experience as a registered veterinary nurse in clinical practice. We would welcome candidates that are happy to work flexibly in a team environment and who are keen to enhance their skillset with additional CPD. Above all we look for enthusiasm and happiness in our team members who should have a can-do attitude.

Benefits (subject to pro rata):

•             4 weeks paid holiday not including bank holidays
•             3 days paid CPD leave
•             £550 CPD allowance per annum
•             RCVS Membership paid

Dan is an IOW local having grown up in Wootton Bridge and attending school at Ryde High School. On finishing his A-levels, he attended Bristol Vet School and after graduating in 2005 he joined a mixed practice in Wiltshire, where he worked for a few years before returning to the Island with his wife Kirsty (who just happens to be a veterinary nurse!)

Kirsty is a professionally qualified Veterinary Nurse with 10 years experience. She has always strived to provide excellent care for all animals whether under anaesthesia or in hospital, she loves the personal touch and providing the TLC that’s required. Kirsty has obtained additional qualifications to better herself and is registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) meaning that you can stay content that your pets are under the very best of care when in her hands.

The surgery has been custom designed by Kirsty and Dan from scratch.

The interior houses heated kennels for comfortable recovery of patients immediately post surgery prior to them being returned to their home. Sliding out from beneath the kennel is a veterinary walk on scales which will accurately weight patients up to 200kg.

The vehicle has been designed with operations in mind. To this effect there is a wall mounted anaesthetic machine with oxygen and all the necessary monitoring equipment, to include pulse oximetry (assessing oxygenation of patients), blood pressure monitoring equipment and more!

All the necessary surgical tools and consumables are housed in the built in cupboards where, carefully stowed are our analysis machines and microscope amongst other laboratory/diagnostic equipment to help diagnose our patients ailments whilst on the move.

Also neatly contained within the mobile surgery is a dental machine with polisher and scaler to keep your pets teeth in pristine condition.

The onboard dispensary ensures that we have medication at hand, be it flea/worm treatment or more specific prescription medication. Anything we do not have can be obtained the very next day for you.

Roaming internet and access to veterinary software allows us to keep our patients records at our fingertips, whilst a mobile card machine makes payment quick and convenient for our clients.

Being mobile we do not have a direct electricity source so kindly request access to a standard plug socket to plug into the mobile surgery, although we have a back up generator for use as necessary.
