The role:

An exciting opportunity has arise for a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our Shawbirch practice in Shropshire.

Joining our professional, personable team in the practice, you’ll deliver exceptional care by going beyond consulting to listen and empathising, putting patients and clients first, always.

As a Head Veterinary Nurse, you will be responsible for a variety of nursing duties as well as sharing best practice with your team and helping to support and develop the student nurses in your practice.

All of our Head Nurses are provided with dedicated support with other duties, such as recruitment and Health and Safety. While there are still administration duties involved in your role, this support will allow you to spend more time managing your team and doing what you love, nursing!

In this diverse and dynamic role, you’ll be an RCVS Registered Nurse with small animal practice experience, you put high standards of patient care first and can demonstrate how you’ve worked with empathy and demonstrated initiative when needed. You also understand not only your role but also the capabilities of PCA’s and student nurses, and are eager to help colleagues to develop their skills and knowledge.

Most importantly, you’ll share our values being trustworthy, caring and progressive showing your passion and professionalism for working as one team to deliver exceptional care.

At present the role may have some days sole charge due to limited vets hours. Full support will be provided as you will work closely within our experienced team at our sister Oakengates branch.

Full time working hours are 40 hours a week which includes a fair share of weekend shifts, bank holiday and on call. Part time hours considered.

Salary and benefits package:

CPD allowance plus CPD leave

25 days paid annual leave plus bank holidays.


Medivet Shawbirch is a small practice, it is nestled in the beautiful county of Shropshire, a short drive away from the picturesque Iron Bridge World Heritage Site and the Wrekin hills. Telford shopping centre is only 10 minutes away from, the practice which has over 160 stores, cafes and restaurants. The practice has on site parking and is very accessible with the A442, M54, A5 and Wellington train station is very close.

The practice is equipped with the latest facilities including digital x-ray, in-house laboratory, operating theatre, dentistry and Ultrasound. Shawbirch is a lovely practice with a very close client base. Small routine procedures would be done from the surgery with larger surgical or more complicated medical cases going to the Oakengates practice which you would be able to do should you want to. We also have access to CT at our 24 hour Shrewsbury branch who also cover the OOHs.
