Job Details

Come and be part of our INDEPENDANT friendly two vet practice in the small Hertfordshire town of Stanstead Abbotts.

Good Companions is a long-established privately-owned practice where our primary focus is driven by compassion for our patients and empathy for our clients.

This is a fabulous opportunity for an enthusiastic RVN to be part of our very experienced 4 nurse team.  The rota is 40 hours a week with 1 in 4 Saturday mornings and up to 5 weeks holiday per year. There are no Sundays, no on-call, and our normal working day ends at 6 pm allowing a good work-life balance.

Salary is generous and commensurate with experience.

CPD is encouraged and funded.

Good Companions is a small tier 2 accredited practice clinic and is well equipped with diagnostic and treatment facilities and an in-house lab, seeing dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed.

We have separate cat and dog waiting rooms and separate wards. We offer a wide spectrum of veterinary services including acupuncture. The practice is situated a few minutes walk from the train line to London and is located within an old maltings building with lots of free parking. Our caring team provides a friendly personal service to our clients and we ensure that the welfare and wellbeing of our patients is paramount at all times.

Overnight hospital care, out of hours services and additional diagnostic and treatment support is delivered by our sister practice – The Bishops Stortford Veterinary Hospital.

Company

Caroline and Simon Baker purchased the practice in 1992, with the aspiration to provide the standard of care for pets and their owners that they would wish for their own pets.

Caroline's empathy with her patients and understanding of the concerns and worries of pet owners meant the number of clients on the practice books grew rapidly.  In December 2006, Pip McLachlan became a partner in the practice.  In July 2013 our assistant, Amy joined us to cover maternity leave and we were fortunate that she decided to stay when our previous assistant decided not to return to work.  We are keen that continuity of care is maintained, and so encourage you to request an appointment with the vet of your choice.  All three vets work together closely ... three heads are often better than one, and discussion of our ongoing cases ensures that if you were to have to see a different vet you will not have to recap all that has been happening with your pet.

In March 2005 we moved from our first floor premises in The Maltings to a purpose designed premises on the ground floor.  This move has provided us with a practice with many modern practice design ideas incorporated.  We have benefitted from separate dog and cat waiting rooms and kennel wards, an aseptic operating theatre and a designated imaging room.
