Job Details

As part of a large veterinary group, Parkvets has the support of external HR, marketing and finance teams, but the general manager is responsible for coordinating these services and ensuring that support protocols are implemented and maintained. A large part of the role is the oversight of a team of managers – all of whom are dedicated and capable in their operational areas – whilst always being mindful of the wider needs of the business.

The new general manager will play an intrinsic part in the next stage of Parkvets’ journey, and the successful candidate will be ambitious for the practice and themselves. Reporting directly to the clinical directors, the general manager will have influence over the direction and focus of the practice but moreover, will be responsible for the delivery of all non-clinical aspects of agreed strategies. It is a job that will require commitment and drive, but which will deliver the satisfaction, enjoyment and sense of achievement, that comes from making a difference.

There are very few typical days but they will include preparation of vets' rotas, H&S process implementation & reporting, performance reviews, financial review and reporting, budget setting, HR queries and record keeping, marketing initiatives, training, and the provision of guidance and coaching for the management team.

Parkvets is one of the South East’s premier veterinary practices, and with clinics across 8 sites, it is one of the largest veterinary groups in the area. Focused around its Sidcup based veterinary hospital, the practice provides 24-hour care and treatment for dogs, cats, rabbits and the full range of companion animals. We have the fullest range of equipment and facilities, are ISFM and Compassion Understood accredited, and we have experienced and dedicated clinicians who deliver exceptional service to their clients as well as outstanding clinical care for their patients.

Our team of over 100 animal loving staff is divided into four main areas – clinical services, client care, administration and finance – and we are now looking for an experienced general manager to oversee all of these strands.

We have 25 vets, 30 nurses and a team of support staff who enable the clinicians to focus on the veterinary aspects of their roles. We work hard to help our staff reach their true potential, so we provide a collaborative and supportive environment where training is encouraged, where individuals often move to new roles and where staff are allowed the freedom to work independently as well as in their teams. Clinical excellence is at the heart of everything we do, along with a belief in the need for compassion and understanding when working with anxious and concerned clients. Our staff have to work hard but the team is supportive, caring and team focused, making working together a positive experience.

Knowledge in HR, finance, marketing, customer service and IT is essential. Key skills in leadership, HR management, communication (oral and written), change management, process design and implementation and project management is required. Experience with direct responsibility for KPI delivery, organisational re-design and change, project delivery, IT and infrastructure management, decision-making and management team support & guidance is also required.

As a BAME and LGBT+ inclusive employer, we are keen to hear from candidates from all minority and diverse groups. As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.

Company

You would be forgiven for thinking that all veterinary practices are alike - after all every vet wants the very best for their patients - but the variation in service levels is as extensive in the veterinary world as it is in any other profession.

Parkvets is an accredited Tier 3 practice with all the facilities and equipment that would imply.  We manage the vast majority of our cases in-house without the need for expensive and inconvenient referral and we operate our own out-of-hours service.

To achieve this we have a team of 16 vets supported by more than 20 nurses - most of whom are fully qualified - who tend our in-patients morning, noon and night.  And our vets have over 90 years of cumluative experience, so there is not much we haven't seen.
