A work life extraordinary at Vets Now Colchester

Working as an emergency Vet Surgeon will expose you to a diverse range of cases that you simply won’t see in general practice. We are looking for a Vet Surgeon to work alongside our fantastic team of Vets, Nurses and support staff in our Colchester clinic. This is also an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step into Emergency and Critical Care as you will be supported by our very experienced team on shift. Although confidence with sole charge is a must, we have a strong support network, in and out of clinic, and there’s always somewhere to seek advice.

Working out-of-hours doesn’t mean working all hours

This clinic has a supportive, friendly team based out of a well equipped clinic. Colchester is seen as a popular town for commuters, and is less than 30 miles (50 km) from London Stansted Airport and 20 miles (30 km) from the passenger ferry port of Harwich.

This opportunity provides great scope for work/life balance. A full time role in Colchester will include the below shift patterns:

Weekday nights: 18:30-09:00

Saturday: 12:00-21:30 / 21:00-09:30

Sunday: 09:00-21:30 / 21:00-09:00

Plus a fair share of bank holidays.

Take control of your own career development

We take pride and integrity in the work that we do and that’s why we are committed to investing in the career progression of our people. From accredited ECC certification support to clinical research studies we will support you in taking control of your own career development. In Colchester, you will be fully supported by an expert nursing team and coached by our exceptional Senior Vet who will oversee your professional career development.

Great place to work

Our employees are our greatest asset which is why we offer a first class benefits and rewards package that includes:

  • 7 weeks pro rata annual leave
  • Your birthday as a paid day off
  • Private medical insurance
  • £1500 CPD allowance plus 35 paid hours pro rata
  • UK Standard Pension contributions – 5% Employee/3% Employer
  • Professional membership fees
  • Up to 50% discounted staff pet care
  • Death in service of two times annual salary
  • Membership of employee wellbeing programme
  • Company sick, maternity, paternity and adoption pay schemes

Get off on the right foot

We can also offer a place on AdvantEdge, our two-week programme for experienced Vets. AdvantEdge is aimed at Vets with at least two years UK small animal or mixed practice experience, and who want to top-up their emergency medical and surgical knowledge whilst learning new techniques. The lectures on AdvantEdge are delivered virtually by diplomats in ECC, Internal Medicine and Surgery as well as experienced ECC clinicians. The programme also features mentored shifts in clinic – an ideal opportunity to work alongside an experienced emergency clinician and put into practice everything you’ve picked up on the programme.

Company

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from 55 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our three hospitals — in Glasgow, Manchester and Swindon — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
