Job Details

A normal day at our practice involves a slow start to the morning, where everyone is able to get a cup of tea and chat about any cases coming in. We then have a 1-2 hour morning consult block starting at 9. This is followed by flexible time to perform ops, work up cases, do phone calls and/or take a long lunch. Afternoon consults run from 3-6. There is one dedicated ops vet each day who performs the routine ops along with any of their own cases. Saturday mornings are kept as quiet as possible and are on a 1:4 rota between all vets with time off in lieu. No OOH. Clinical Directors perform their clinical work but are also allocated dedicated admin time to perform their other roles and to catch up with team members as necessary.

Saxon Vets is a 4 vet small animal practice located in rural Suffolk. We are well equipped with digital radiography, a new ultrasound machine including a cardiac probe and multi-parameter anaesthetic monitoring. We are a client-focused practice that prides ourselves on high standards of client care. We utilise 15 minute consults as standard and book 30 minute consults where necessary. Each vet is given plenty of time to research and work up their own cases, as well as being able to book ops in with themselves on any day. The practice is located in the town of Wickham Market, which is close to the beach towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold, as well as being 25 minutes away from Ipswich.

We are a team of 4 full time vets, supported by 1 RVN and 3 nursing students (two of which are due to graduate this year). In addition to this we have two animal care assistants, and a fantastic admin/reception team. We are a practice where everyone gets involved in all areas, and there is a strong teaching culture to ensure everybody learns and grows together. We have a prominent position in the local community, and our vets regularly judge at the Suffolk Dog Day.

The applicant will need to be a MRCVS, ideally with several years post graduate experience in small animal practice. Further study towards certificates is supported and funded. We are a small close-knit team who (pre-covid) had regular social gatherings together and we also love baking so we’d like somebody who likes making (or eating!) cakes. In addition to your excellent clinical and communication skills, you will need to be a people oriented person, who is willing to support and guide your colleagues.

Company

We are a youthful and forward thinking team, our focus has always been to provide the best care to our patients and clients, in an environment that is conducive to career progression and skill development. Further to this we also have an extremely pleasant and proactive client base. We aim to invest in the best quality equipment to allow clinical staff every chance to exercise their skills.

We have a strong culture of care for one another in the team, striving to give a healthy work-life balance. To this end we do not carry out our own out of hours care, this is typically covered by local Vets-now services. We are however a busy surgery, with an interesting and varied caseload.

Our practice social groups are very active with regular dog walks and (with the easing of lockdown) social gatherings. Couple this with the beautiful surrounding countryside and interesting local towns; we feel that Saxon Vets offers an attractive, long term working proposition for a dedicated vet looking to put down roots.
