Job Details

We are looking for a small animal veterinary surgeon with interests in both consulting and surgery. We work in a supportive team environment and encourage and support you to develop your own interests. We have lots of equipment including ultrasound, digital x-ray, dental x-ray, endoscopy and tonometry and have an in-house blood machine in every surgery. Our full time vets work a 4 day week plus a share of weekends and out of hours work. We don’t expect our vets to work nights & days at the same time.

We are a large practice situated in beautiful mid Cornwall, close to the Eden Project with plenty of beautiful beaches and coastline nearby. We have five small animal surgeries and a large animal department. Two of our surgeries have ISFM silver cat friendly status and all of our surgeries have General Practice RCVS Practice Standards status. We have excellent 24 hour nursing care at our Lostwithiel Hospital and are proud to provide our own out of hours service to our clients and pride ourselves on offering a high standard of patient and client care. We are a friendly team and have several certificate holders across the group.

We are looking for a vet with experience who is looking to increase their case responsibility. The right applicant will be confident with excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team. Developing client bonds and case continuity is very important in this role. There is clinical freedom to work up your own cases and the caseload would support studying towards a certificate.

Company

Formed from the merger of Harleigh Vets, Pelyn Veterinary Group and Churchend Veterinary Centre, Kernow Farm and Equine is the new force in the provision of high quality veterinary care in Cornwall. We believe that the pooling of our resources allows us to combine the traditional values of a local veterinary practice with the wider range of services offered by the bigger specialist practices.

We now have four centres across Mid-Cornwall in Bodmin, Lostwithiel, St Austell and a pick up facility in Wadebridge. The merger has produced a large vet practice dedicated to farm and equine work with each vet bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to this new enterprise. We believe that local knowledge is important - our vets have lived and worked in Cornwall for many years.

We are able to offer a broad range of services both in the agricultural and equine sectors. Our agricultural vets look after farms ranging from the thousand cow dairy units to small hobby farms, and this is our strength. We already have staff with expertise in dairy herd health, mastitis control, lameness investigations, fertility issues and long term health planning.

We have vets with particular skills in sheep and beef medicine and others actively involved with support for small holders. Our equine vets deal with everything from teeth rasping and vaccinations, to lameness investigations and minor surgery.

Modern farming requires a team approach to maximise farm profitability. We believe that the changes we are implementing will allow us to continue to be an important part of that team. Kernow Farm and Equine, working together with you, is the way forward for the future provision of veterinary healthcare.
