Job Details

We are looking for an experienced veterinary surgeon to join our team. Our vets currently work a 4 day week with a mix of consulting and operating. We do our own out of hours so the role also includes sharing in the weekend and overnight on-call rota. Competitive salary dependent on experience.

We are a well-established 7 Vet, 8 Nurse single site first-opinion practice in Banbury, North Oxfordshire, on the edge of the Cotswolds with good transport links via the motorway and rail network to Birmingham, London, the south coast and beyond. We are a VN training practice and a RCVS registered Small Animal General Practice.

We moved to our current large purpose-built premises 10 years ago. We have a large client car park, spacious waiting room with separate dog and cat waiting areas, 5 consulting rooms, in-house lab, well stocked pharmacy, 2 separate air-conditioned dog wards (one with walk-in kennels for large dogs), separate air conditioned cat ward and 2 isolation units and dedicated recovery area for post-operative patients together with 2 incubators for smaller patients. We also have separate theatre and prep area, large prep room with 2 separate working areas, 2 theatres (one with laparoscopy and orthopaedic equipment), anaesthetic monitors and drip pumps, dedicated dental suite with dental radiography, digital x-rays, ultrasound, on-site CT scanner, video endoscopy and orthopaedic equipment.

We are looking for a vet who has experience and a keen surgical/diagnostic imaging bias but also happy with first opinion work/consults. You will be comfortable with soft tissue surgery and basic orthopaedic procedures and be driven to expand your capabilities. You will be willing to enrol for a certificate or already hold one. You must enjoy working as part of a team and be keen to work cases up and follow through your own cases. Ideally you will also be motivated to help develop the surgical side of the practice further with the excellent facilities we have.

Hawthorne Lodge Vets in Banbury, Oxfordshire specialise in treating cats, dogs and children's pets in and around Banbury, Adderbury, Bloxham, Middleton Cheney and Deddington.

Hawthorne Lodge Vets situated in West Bar, Banbury is an independent veterinary practice, owned by the principal vet, Justin Yates MA VetMB CertVR MRCVS.

In a changing veterinary care world of growing corporate dominance, we are able to make decisions based on the clinical judgements of our individual vets, rather than being governed by directors in a central office, far removed from frontline clinical care.

We provide our own emergency vet care exclusively for our own patients, so that in a time of crisis, you will be in familiar surroundings, and we will have your pet's full medical history to hand.

Our team of five vets has a combined experience of over forty years looking after pets.  We carry out ward rounds for our patients every day, when we discuss unusual or challenging cases, as we believe in most instances five heads are better than one.

Based in recently refurbished premises a stone's throw from Banbury Cross, the practice has extensive, free parking, and a large range of modern diagnostic and surgical equipment.
