Job Details

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join us! The role will include general veterinary nursing duties. Our qualified nurses run their own nurse clinics, perform schedule 3 procedures and also train students. We offer an excellent rota, a mix of 8:00am – 4:00pm and 11:00am – 7:00pm shifts. 6 in 12 Saturday mornings and no night, weekend or bank holiday duties because these are covered by Vets Now. Competitive salary based on experience and will be discussed at interview.

The ideal person will be friendly, enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking and fit well into our current team of 12 vet nurses, 2 student nurses, 3 animal nursing assistants, 7 vets and 7 receptionists and a chance to work alongside our Orthopaedic Specialist. Our nurses are always encouraged to learn new skills, we offer generous CPD allowance and full support. Excellent equipment including flexible and rigid endoscope, digital x-ray and CT scanner. We are a lively practice in the centre of Reading with excellent amenities within walking distance. We try our absolute best to make sure everyone goes home on time (although you may be the overtime nurse once every 2 weeks)! Yummy biscuits and cakes frequently available!

Ideally you will have an RVN qualification but we will consider a student nurse due to qualify. Clinical coach experience is a bonus but there is opportunity to train as clinical coach with us. Experience of running nurse clinics also an advantage. Being able to work as part of a large team is a must but it is also important to be able to use your initiative and work independently.

Our aim is to provide a caring, professional personalised service, that recognises the individual bond you have with your pet and works with you to try and keep your pet happy and well throughout its life.

Castle Vets is a fully independant small animal veterinary practice. It is owned and managed by veterinary surgeons David Terry and Peter Jackman, both of whom have been with us for over 25 years and still work full time at the practice.

Castle Vets is a  large, single centre, small animal veterinary practice in central Reading. We have been on our site on Tilehurst road since 1972 and our recently rebuilt premises now includes a separate but integrated cat clinic, outstanding in-patient wards and operating theatres (including advanced dentistry), spacious comfortable waiting areas, 9 consulting rooms for both veterinary and nurse consultations, diagnostics room with x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy equipment and a well equipped laboratory.

We are proud to be the only local practice offering completely separate cat friendly facilities. Our integrated Cat Clinic was awarded the coveted Gold Award from International Cat Care and is part of our outstanding air-conditioned modern layout, including spacious segregated in-patient wards and operating theatres, comfortable waiting areas and a large free car park.

Our outstanding facilities make us the ideal choice as host practice for Vets Now who provide many local practices with out of hours emergency cover from our site. Our extensive facilities and collaboration with Vets Now, means that your pet can be cared for on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should the need arise. A minimum of one veterinary surgeon and one qualified veterinary nurse remain on duty at the practice premises, whatever the time of day or night, to ensure regular monitoring and the administration of any required medications to our patients.
