Clinical Director required for maternity cover at Bray House Vets, Grantham.
We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced veterinary surgeon to join us as a clinical director to cover maternity leave.
From our current Clinical Director - "A normal day in the life of a CD is not drastically different from the normal day in the life of a vet. I have remained heavily clinical since taking the role with an admin day per week to try and keep the two areas of work separate so that I can focus on my clinical days. The clinical days consist largely of consulting and operating and supporting the staff members as needed. Administration days are used to catch up with the other areas of running the practice alongside the very supportive Practice Manager. Duties are very varied but include rotas, decisions regarding clinical protocols and governance, development of the business, veterinary surgeon appraisals, communicating IVC initiatives to the rest of the staff and generally making sure everyone is okay. It has added a whole other dimension to veterinary practice for me. I'm still learning every day with support from IVC but it is very rewarding to see the difference you can make."
Both of our practices are situated within walking distance of the town centres. Our mother practice is in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. This is where the Bray House Story began over two decades ago. A few years later, Bray House Vets in Grantham, Lincolnshire was born. Both practices are equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, ECG, as well as all the necessities for a first opinion practice. We have a visiting referral orthopaedic Vet, who joins us on a need to basis to perform some surgeries for us. Both practices have a separate dog and cat ward to minimize the stress for our inpatients. They are both equipped with reasonably sized theatres and consult rooms and offer generous reception waiting areas (when clients are allowed back in!).
Currently we are working on a non-client entry for consults, except for euthanasia and for payments where other alternatives are not possible. We help a range of loyal clientele, which brings with it a wide and varying caseload. Many of our clients are insured which offers great opportunity to work to the standard we all strive for. There are also clients with lower incomes so it is important to be able to adapt so that they still receive the best possible care we can provide.
We offer 15-minute consultations as a minimum, extended consults can be arranged for more complex cases. The diary is organised with plenty of room for appointments, emergency block offs/on the day appointments, breaks, catch ups and time for phone calls. There is also a fairly constant stream of tea and coffee to keep you going. Our teams are friendly and supportive, and we have a wide range of knowledge across the Vets and RVNs. We find we work best by discussing cases and sharing opinions. Communication is a really important and integral part of our team culture here; we actively encourage openness and teamwork but also give Vets the freedom to work up their own cases as they see fit.
We are seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join us on a full-time basis as our clinical director. The perfect candidate will have vast experience of first opinion practice and ideally some previous management experience, although this is not essential as further training and support can be provided.
