We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join us in our busy 1st opinion small animal veterinary practice in Bridgwater, Somerset. We are looking for someone to work an average of 40 hours per week with a 1-in-10 week night duty rota and 1-in-5 split weekend rota with time off in lieu.

This position will include varied roles in medical and surgical nursing, consulting and inpatient care working alongside a great team of Vets, RVNs, Student Nurses and Receptionists over 3 sites. A ‘normal’ working day will include, admitting patients, preparing for daily theatre ops, nurse consultations as well as monitoring in-patients, cleaning and patient discharges

Blake Vets can trace its roots back to around 1895 and originally had its premises in Bridgwater town centre before moving to its current purpose-built surgery on Showground Road, just off Taunton Road in 2004. We operate from sites in Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea, covering an area stretching from the Mendips to the Quantocks and from the Bristol Channel out across the Somerset Levels. We are a friendly hardworking team consisting of 2 CDs, 1 PM, 9 Vets, 8 RVNs, 6 SVNS, 1 ACA, and 9 Receptionists.

The practice offers a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to pet owners from its veterinary teams in Bridgwater and Burnham on Sea. There are seven vets and nine nurses operating from the two sites covering an area stretching from the Mendips to the Quantocks and from the Bristol Channel out across the Somerset Levels.

Since 2008, we have focused soley on providing high quality care to companion animals in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Jim Hughes, Sue Webster and Richard Bruce are the directors of the practice and are assisted by four other experienced veterinary surgeons.

We have a strong nursing team of six qualified and two student nurses to support the vets led by our Head Nurse Rachel Watkins RVN who has over 20 years of veterinary nursing experience.   

Qualified and student nurses are skilled professionals who take consultations and perform certain minor surgical procedures. They are able to give advice on all aspects of small animal care, take blood pressure measurements and blood samples and clip nails to name but a few of their skills.

We are committed to the whole team's continued development, from the office staff, receptionists, nurses to the vets through post-graduate training, both in-house and externally.  Everyone is encouraged to develop their own personal skills and interests within the practice. Some areas of special interest include eye problems, skin conditions, heart disease, reptiles, diagnostic imaging, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry and oral healthcare for life of our dogs, cats and rabbits.

All patients who need to stay in overnight are given 24 hour, on-site, nursing care at our Bridgwater surgery

Burnham on Sea Surgery

Our surgery at Burnham on Sea has 2 consulting rooms, one operating theatre, a kennelling area and a well stocked waiting room which has a wide variety of pet food, toys, shampoos and dental products for your pet.  We carry out minor surgical procedures at this surgery including routine spays, castrates, lump removal and dentals. All major surgery is carried out at our Bridgwater site.
