Job Details

Veterinary Surgeon with CertSAM required at Shipley Vets, Shipley, West Yorkshire.

The Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon, with a medical bias, to take a lead position with our medical cases. Competence with ultrasound scanning is essential. Our caseload is varied, and no two days are the same. We are big on preventative healthcare, high standards of care, great customer service and client continuity.

We want to make sure that you have time to follow up on cases and spend more time with your patients, so we run 15-minute consultations. NB since lockdown while clients not coming in the building, we are running 20-minute consultations. We are looking for someone to take on the responsibilities of the medical referrals and develop the skills of our up-and-coming veterinary graduates.

  • Working four-day week
  • Some weekend work may be needed, this is negotiable
  • No OOH
  • Part time applications considered

About Us
We have an amazing team and lovely clients; we are also based in a fantastic location. We are only 15 minutes by train to central Leeds, yet woodland walks and the Yorkshire Dales on our doorstep. Work/life balance highly rated! We see a mixture of routine and preventative work, as well as interesting medical and surgical cases. We provide first opinion care to small animals but also some internal medicine referrals. We are proud to also work with a local hedgehog charity.

Our teams are really friendly and welcoming. We all really support each other and enjoying our working days together, which is very important to us. Our fantastic team is made up of 5 Vet Surgeons, 4 RVN's, VCA's and Receptionists. We are all like-minded people with our own interests. We are keen to support your interests and career goals so please do speak to us about these!

Applicant Requirements
Perhaps you are a Lead Vet Surgeon or Senior Vet Surgeon ready for the next step in their career? We are looking for a friendly experienced candidate with a certificate or working towards one. We can also offer the potential of progression for a Deputy CD role too. During your time at Shipley Vets you will see a mixture of consultations and surgeries, you will have a real chance to make a difference in a smaller veterinary group, build great rapport with your clients as well as ample opportunity to mentor too, should you wish.

Company

The practice is now equipped with an extensive laboratory meaning we can run extensive investigative blood profiles including blood electrolytes, proteins, liver and kidney factors, cholesterol, glucose, and red and white blood cell analysis.

We have a high powered x-ray machine enabling us to take highly diagnostic  detailed x-rays of pets from tiny rabbits to Great Danes.

We are able to examine samples of cells from suspicious lumps and bumps (called fine needle aspirates) with the ability to prepare, stain and examine slides in the Shipley laboratory.

We have a good quality ultrasound scanner to allow non invasive examinations of internal organs.

A full range of endoscopes are used for examining the oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestines (biopsies are often taken this way instead of having to surgically open up a pet to get samples). Also for examining airways. The endoscopes are also used occasionally to retrieve items that have been swallowed and may be too dangerous to leave making their own way through the body (again instead of surgically opening up an abdomen of a  dog or cat for instance).
