Job Details

We are looking for an Exotics Veterinary Surgeon to join our team. Our days start with a cup of tea and a team huddle where we discuss the plan for the day. Edgbaston usually has 3 vets each day. Consulting sessions are broken down by admin breaks to allow catch up time and also time to call clients with results and discuss cases. All patients in hospital are transferred to the main hospital before the end of the day. The case load is varied, we routinely see zoo animals as well as your small furries and feathered friends. The position is 4 days per week with 1-in-6 full weekends with TOIL. No OOH.

We are a modern group of 7 practices in the Birmingham area. We are close to the City Centre but also only a short drive to the country side, so there’s plenty for you to do on your days off. Halesowen is the main small animal hospital as our CT scanner is based there and Edgbaston is the main site for Exotic cases as they have species specific wards to ensure these patients are kept as comfortable as possible during their stay with us. We have a wealth of experience with many of our vets holding certificates in a variety of areas. Many of our nurses have or are working towards further qualifications as well. We have a great team of support staff including Receptionists, Vet aux and admin.

We have a large friendly team consisting of 25 Vets, 23 RVNS and 7 SVNS as well as a large team of supports staff. We like to think of the team as a work family. We currently have medicine, imaging, surgery and exotics certificate holders. The staff here enjoy sharing the wealth of knowledge they have and are often found discussing cases and treatment with colleagues to ensure the best possible treatment is offered to the patients. We also work with and support a number of local charities.

You must hold a certificate or diploma in Zoological medicine as well as experience in treating a wide variety of exotic species. In addition to your excellent clinical and communication skills, you will need to be a people oriented person, who is willing to support and guide your colleagues.

Benefits (subject to pro rata):

  • 5 weeks paid holiday not including bank holidays
