Job Details
We are looking for an enthusiastic veterinarian who wishes to advance their clinical training in cardiology.
Reporting to: Head of Cardiology
Term: 1-year fixed term contract
Hours: 5 days per week, plus participation in the ‘out of hours’ rota (weekend duties)
Internship start date: June/July 2021
This is a busy, multi-disciplinary, referral-only small animal hospital in Hampshire, UK. We have a varied caseload of unusual and challenging cases and a close-knit, enthusiastic team. We continue to expand our clinical services and believe in a team approach to challenging cases.
We accept referrals in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesiology and physiotherapy. Our Specialist Clinicians are supported by a team of highly qualified registered veterinary nurses, nursing assistants and rotating and specialist interns. AMVS has modern equipment radiography, echocardiography, electrocardiography, ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, MRI and CT.
We are offering a one-year Cardiology Internship position to veterinarians wishing to advance their clinical training in cardiology. We are a close-knit team of two cardiologists and a dedicated cardiac nurse.
The Cardiology Intern will work under the supervision of the cardiologists and will be involved in the consultations, assessment and diagnostic procedures of cardiac cases. We also run an interventional cardiology service and the intern will be allowed to join us with these procedures.
The successful candidate will join the AMVS’s rapidly growing team of RCVS, European and American Specialist clinicians in a wide range of disciplines and our AMVS’ team of residents and interns. The intern will be supervised and work on a daily basis with the cardiology team. The successful candidate will benefit from both a busy and dynamic clinical environment and formal training. Interns participate in hospital rounds, journal clubs and are encouraged to attend continuing professional development sessions provided by senior members of staff. There will be out of hour’s responsibilities on a one in four basis working with the on call clinicians.
Candidates must have an enthusiasm for the discipline, an ability to work as part of a dedicated team.
This internship will be ideally suited for someone with previous general practice experience and some experience in cardiology, including echocardiography. Successful candidate must have good written, verbal communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
We strongly support ongoing training and CPD and as a member of our team you will receive a competitive salary and a benefits package which includes private health care and a company pension scheme.
Anderson Moores is located in a rural setting but close to national and international transport links (Heathrow, Southampton and Bournemouth airports, direct train links to London and the Midlands) and easy access to the south coast for recreational activities.
To be considered for role, candidates must be:
• MRCVS or hold a veterinary degree registrable with the RCVS
• Eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
Please note that due to the location of our practice and the ‘on call’ responsibilities, having your own transport would be an advantage.
