Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue hospital is seeking applications for a dedicated Interventional Radiology/Endoscopy internship beginning in June/July 2021 and Rotating Internships beginning in October 2021.

We are a purpose-built specialist referral hospital in Guildford Surrey, dedicated to expert care, innovative clinical decision-making and compassionate communication.

Our facilities are state-of-the-art and include four operating theatres with Datex Ohmeda monitoring and Aestiva 5 and Datex Ohmeda S/5 anaesthetic machines, a 160-slice CT scanner, C-arm fluoroscopy, an interventional radiology suite, minimally-invasive surgical equipment, cystoscopy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, dedicated chemotherapy preparation and administration rooms, ultrasonography, digital radiography and a full in-house laboratory.

Rotating Internship
This post will provide exposure and training in surgical oncology, medical oncology, soft tissue surgery, anaesthesia, internal medicine and diagnostic imaging. You will be required to assist with consultations, client communication, diagnostic procedures and surgical procedures/interventions alongside daily care of patients.

The successful candidates will split duties between routine/emergency surgeries, critical patient care, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine and OOH night/weekend duties (time off in lieu).

Interventional Radiology/Endoscopy internship
This post will provide exposure and training in all aspects of Interventional Radiology, Interventional Oncology and Interventional Endoscopy along with a broad range of internal medicine cases. The successful candidate will work directly alongside Gerard McLauchlan (European and RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine) who has completed a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy at the Animal Medical Centre in New York.

The service works alongside clinicians in soft tissue surgery, medical/surgical oncology, diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia.

You will be required to assist with consultations, client communication, diagnostic procedures and surgical procedures/interventions alongside daily care of patients.

The successful candidates will take part in a 1:4 weekend on call rota.

General
For all positions, the successful candidate must be a graduated Veterinary Surgeon and preferably have completed a 12 month rotating internship or at least two years of general small animal practice (consideration will be given to exceptional new graduates). The post would be suitable for someone considering pursuing a Residency position. If you are not exempt from proving your English language proficiency, you must take an IELTS-Academic test (from the British Council. You will require an overall score of 7.5 with a minimum of 7 in each sub-test).

In addition you should be care driven, have excellent communication skills, be organised and be able to operate in a 24/7 team environment. Active involvement with clinical research is encouraged and weekly seminars augment clinical learning. Off-site accommodation is available if required.
Interviews for the Interventional Radiology position will be held via Zoom/Skype mid-May, for the Rotating position end June.

Located in Guildford on the Surrey Research Park, adjacent to the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine, the St. Luke’s Cancer Centre, and The Royal Surrey Hospital. It is well served by both Gatwick and Heathrow airports and is within 30 minutes of central London via train.
