Surgery Information / Job Description

Will your next career move be to join our hugely successful and established practice in Leicester Fosse Park? We are seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to lead and mentor our friendly team on a full time basis!

Our partners, Sameer and Shabbir, have a number of years’ experience between them and are both practical, proactive and very approachable enabling great relationships and fostering opportunities. They now have two fantastic practices just 6 miles apart and at Fosse Park we have a large team consisting of 7 vets, 7 registered veterinary nurses, 3 student veterinary nurses, 3 animal care assistants and 7 receptionists and a practice manager.

You will work with modern state of the art equipment including modern veterinary equipment for surgery including orthopaedic, soft tissue, digital x-ray, ultrasound, IDEXX blood machines and dental x-ray. Sameer routinely performs orthopaedic surgery and we have a regular CT scanner visits every 4 weeks in partnership with Burgess Diagnostics.

Each of our vets have a specific interest which makes a versatile and a well-rounded team, what we need from our new lead vet is the ability to be able to encourage, develop and support our team alongside our JVP’s and practice manager.

Our practice manager covers the admin side so that aspect of the job will be minimal – only for holiday cover as necessary!

We are an RCVS accredited practice with robust set of protocols that are regularly changing to be in line with best practice and gold standard. We have strong organic growth. Our clients and their pets are at the centre of everything we do and we are looking for a vet who shares the same values as us. We are always open to ideas of how we can better ourselves, the team, and the care we provide, or build the practice further within our local community. Recently our hard work has recognised and we are proud to have been nominated for Petplan Practice of the Year 2021.

Our nursing team have a very clinical mind set, like being part of schedule 3 procedures and helping the team out.

Successful applicants will have 4/5 years post graduate experience, with good surgical and medical skills, and be willing to help more junior team members. Previous experience of this would be advantageous but not essential. A basic understanding and knowledge of exotics will be advantageous as we see these via the Pets at Home store. You should have good communication skills, be a team player, and enjoy the variety provided by the clients and colleagues.

We really enjoy developing our colleague’s careers and can support with study towards a certificate if you wish, and when the Partners take time off, the team support each other and our management team works really well together.

Locally owned practices with a world of support

At Vets for Pets we’re a network of practices that are owned and managed by the practice owners that run them. Because they’re locally owned, each practice has the freedom to serve patients and clients the way it thinks is best.

But crucially, being locally-owned also means enjoying a truly team-spirited atmosphere. We want all our colleagues to build lasting relationships with practice owners and team members as well as patients and clients.

And because we’re also part of a wider group, you’ll get all the support you need when you need it. That means state-of-the-art facilities, high quality CPD, financial stability and a real sense of job security.

With our framework, we’ve made it simpler and easier for you to help patients and clients live happier, healthier lives together. It’s about making the most of your expertise and bringing this to life in practise while being safe in the knowledge that you’re looked after too. Simply put, we offer locally owned practices with a world of support.

Flexibility & Wellbeing
You tell us which hours you want to work, and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. With us, you could enjoy a better work-life balance where flexibility and wellbeing come first.

Training & Development
We offer great training programmes, plus fully funded CPD, leadership courses and access to our group’s learning curriculum. We’ll also support you if you’re interested in owning a practice. With our wealth of resources, it’s easy to build your skills and develop your career.

Local Practices
With us, no two practices are the same. We’re deeply rooted in our local communities and we want you to really get to know your patients and clients locally.

Being part of the Pets At Home Group
Being part of Vets for Pets means you’ll be part of our network of locally owned practices. Our practices are located across the country and are owned and run by our Joint Venture Partners (JVPs). Our Joint Venture Partnership model is unique and gives everyone the best of both worlds. Working within one of our practices you’ll get to work with the JVP who has the clinical freedom and autonomy to do things their own way.

As we’re part of a large respected organisation you’ll also enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider PLC Group. This means we can give you greater stability and job security during these uncertain times and beyond.

What’s more, we’ve worked hard to make sure everyone in our group can take part in a fun, friendly, professional and inclusive culture that allows you to bring your whole self to work and be at your very best.
