Job Details

We are looking for a veterinary surgeon to join our friendly team on a full time basis. Your day would begin with either a morning of consulting - with a scheduled coffee break! - or a morning in theatre. In the afternoon there is consulting, which is divided equally between the team. If a clinician is not on the rota to consult then they are free to use the time to work-up cases, do CPD or be available for emergencies. Due to the spread of vets across 4 sites we do not have physical clinical rounds, but instead we have virtual rounds at the end of each day, using WhatsApp.

A Tier 3 small animal veterinary hospital with 3 branch practices. The hospital is a purpose built site that is well equipped with digital radiography, ultrasonography, dental radiography and endoscopy. Located in Ipswich, close to glorious Suffolk coastline and within easy reach of London. We are a supportive and ambitious team who strive to provide gold-standard veterinary care.

We are a team of one clinical director, 10 vets (a mixture of full and part-time), 9 registered veterinary nurses (a mixture of full and part-time), 2 student veterinary nurses, 11 reception and support staff, and 2 practice managers. Within the vet team we have a wealth of experience - 4 certificate holders (small animal medicine and surgery) and 2 vets currently training - 1 small animal medicine and the other in exotics. We are a very supportive team, we often have clinical meetings and there is at least one bake brought in a week! We like to be involved with the community, and help to run then annual dog show at a local event. We fundraise for a local hospice. Our teams like to socialise outside of work, and there are regular evenings out organised when the pandemic allows! We all love to let our hair down at the annual Christmas party and team building events.

We are hoping to recruit a friendly, motivated and enthusiastic team-player who would like to be involved in driving progression of the group. It would be preferable that the candidate either is a certificate holder, or plans to undertake a certificate, in Diagnostic Imaging, although this is not essential. It is more important to us, that we find a Vet who fits in well with our team. We will provide an environment of support and encouragement for career progression. Due to the location of our practices, it would be preferable that any candidate has an up-to-date driving license, and a practice vehicle is available for business use.

Benefits (pro rata):

  • 5 weeks paid holiday not including bank holidays
  • 5 days paid CPD leave
  • £1250 CPD Allowance per annum
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • VDS Membership paid
  • BVA Membership paid

Company

Born out of tradition and grown through a reputation for care and service,Orwell Vet Group is a long established, family owned and independent vet practice offering a full range of first opinion veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits and family pets.

Brothers, Charles and James Bagnall had close ties with the practice during their education, both at School and then University. They became partners in 1994 and now have over 40 years experience between them working at Orwell Vet Group. They are the only vet practice in Ipswich to have achieved Tier Three Hospital status at their purpose built Grange Farm Vet Hospital and have three other branch surgeries in Ipswich town centre, Ravenswood and Stutton. Charles and James take great pride in serving the community in which they grew up and are assisted by a great team of vets, registered nurses and receptionists.

Many of the staff are local residents themselves and have been at Orwell Vet Group for many years collectively, creating a very well trained and stable team. Brothers Charles and James Bagnall have built Orwell Vet Group into a multi branch, multi award winning vet practice from its early days as a small vet practice in Ipswich. Both Charles and James grew up in the Suffolk countryside and went to school in Ipswich. Sharing a passion for animals they both chose the same career path and jumped at the chance to work together in their home town. Over the last 20 years Charles and James have developed the practice in terms of facilities, services and staff.
