Surgery Information / Job Description

We here at Newport Vets4Pets are not just about finding the correct candidate with the right clinical skills. We also want someone with the right personality to fit in with our team. We want to ensure that we recruit for the long-term. This means that whilst it is very important to us that the right person is professional and has the right work attitude, equally the right colleague must be able to take and give out banter, not be easily offended and most importantly, when not working, not take life too seriously. So if you have good people skills, are prepared to work and play hard and enjoy your work then you are what we are looking for.

Our centrally-located practice opened in 2008 and has gone from strength to strength, maintaining an excellent reputation amongst the local community and a diverse, loyal client base. By joining us, you will play a key part in upholding this reputation as well as helping us to grow even more.

Practice Owner, Paul McCarthy, a 1999 RVC graduate, is an experienced and driven vet. Paul leads a supportive team of 5 vets, 5 nurses, and 5 receptionists. We are a training practice with a wealth of experience in developing colleagues and you will benefit from the knowledge of our entire team, including our skilled Vets and Head RVN, who also holds a certificate in anaesthesia.

Visit our website to find out even more about our team.

The surgery boasts a range of equipment including Pro-cyte and analyser, microscopy, separate theatre, cat and dog kennels, capnography, digital x-ray processor, ultra-sound, ECG and BP machine. You’ll have ample opportunities to work up cases; being an established practice, we see a whole range of medical and surgical cases, and refer very few!

Person Specification

Our ideal new vet will be confident in consulting and all routine surgeries, with a desire to continue to learn and grow in the profession. A keen and welcoming attitude and the enthusiasm to help expand our established client base are also very important.

You’ll enjoy a great work-life balance, working 41 hours per week, including just 1 in 5 Saturday mornings, with no OOH or on-call!

Benefits

In return for your hard work and great attitude, we can offer a supportive and friendly working environment together with career development opportunities, an excellent package and benefits that include a competitive salary, generous CPD allowance - which is extremely encouraged, as well as lots of exclusive company discounts and rewards.

We are an Equal Opportunities Employer

Locally owned practices with a world of support

At Vets for Pets we’re a network of practices that are owned and managed by the practice owners that run them. Because they’re locally owned, each practice has the freedom to serve patients and clients the way it thinks is best.

But crucially, being locally-owned also means enjoying a truly team-spirited atmosphere. We want all our colleagues to build lasting relationships with practice owners and team members as well as patients and clients.

And because we’re also part of a wider group, you’ll get all the support you need when you need it. That means state-of-the-art facilities, high quality CPD, financial stability and a real sense of job security.

With our framework, we’ve made it simpler and easier for you to help patients and clients live happier, healthier lives together. It’s about making the most of your expertise and bringing this to life in practise while being safe in the knowledge that you’re looked after too. Simply put, we offer locally owned practices with a world of support.

Flexibility & Wellbeing
You tell us which hours you want to work, and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. With us, you could enjoy a better work-life balance where flexibility and wellbeing come first.

Training & Development
We offer great training programmes, plus fully funded CPD, leadership courses and access to our group’s learning curriculum. We’ll also support you if you’re interested in owning a practice. With our wealth of resources, it’s easy to build your skills and develop your career.

Local Practices
With us, no two practices are the same. We’re deeply rooted in our local communities and we want you to really get to know your patients and clients locally.

Being part of the Pets At Home Group
Being part of Vets for Pets means you’ll be part of our network of locally owned practices. Our practices are located across the country and are owned and run by our Joint Venture Partners (JVPs). Our Joint Venture Partnership model is unique and gives everyone the best of both worlds. Working within one of our practices you’ll get to work with the JVP who has the clinical freedom and autonomy to do things their own way.

As we’re part of a large respected organisation you’ll also enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider PLC Group. This means we can give you greater stability and job security during these uncertain times and beyond.

What’s more, we’ve worked hard to make sure everyone in our group can take part in a fun, friendly, professional and inclusive culture that allows you to bring your whole self to work and be at your very best.
