Job Details

We have an opportunity for an RCVS registered veterinary surgeon to work as an intern in a busy orthopaedic referral centre alongside an RCVS/ECVS specialist in small animal surgery. In the role, you can expect to work 48 hours a week and 1:3 Saturday mornings. You will spend 70% of your time working with our orthopaedic team and 30% of your time managing your own caseload in the general practice side of our clinic.

This internship is designed to help the candidate develop their curriculum vitae in preparation for residency application, although desire to pursue as residency is not a prerequisite. The position equally suits a veterinary surgeon who wishes to maintain their general practice skillset while developing their orthopaedic knowledge.

We are located in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland, surrounded by some of the most stunning beaches Scotland has to offer and sitting minutes from the famous Fife Coastal Pathway. Not only are we offering an exciting employment opportunity, but also a unique work/life balance, in a geographical location that offers an abundance of activities to ensure you enjoy life and work in equal measures. Edinburgh International Airport, one hour away, offers convenient access to domestic and international destinations.

The practice benefits from being purpose-built, affording a very pleasant working environment with well-maintained facilities and is fully equipped with all the usual toys, including CT, and have recently invested in an Arthrex 4K arthroscopy system. Our current case load for orthopaedics varies between 20-25 new cases a week.

Our orthopaedic department is currently comprised of two clinicians: an ECVS Diplomate and a Cert AVP Holder. In addition to this, our general practice has a team of experienced vets and both departments benefit from a team of exceptional nurses and support staff, most of whom have been with the practice many years.

Applicant Requirements:

•             Member of the RCVS
•             One year of clinical experience in general practice
•             Good English Language, both verbal and written
•             Good communication skills
•             A strong interest in orthopaedics is highly beneficial

As a BAME and LGBT+ inclusive employer, we are keen to hear from candidates from all minority and diverse groups. As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.
