Job Details

We are looking for a veterinary surgeon to join us full time. Shift patterns vary but a typical day will start at 8.30am with morning rounds for 30 minutes, followed by a 9am start on operating or consulting. There is one consulting shift a fortnight on average at the branch surgery 7 miles away, which is sole charge (there is a qualified RVN assisting). After a break for lunch (cake optional!), there is an afternoon of consults or ops. We operate a 1 in 6 evening shift until 9pm dealing with any urgent appointments, but any phone calls after this time are taken by a local out-of-hours centre.

We are a mixed small animal/equine practice in rural Buckinghamshire, nestled in the Chiltern Hills but with easy access to London and transport links (20mins to M25, 50 mins to central London by train, 40 mins to Heathrow, whenever holidays are allowed!). Our small animal and exotics team friendly and supportive. We provide lunch daily and kennelling for staff dogs. We have an onsite hydrotherapy and physiotherapy unit, ultrasound, in house laboratory and digital x-ray.

We have 9 FTE vets, one vet cert holder (in small animal medicine, 15 full and part time nurses with 5 cert holders (in ECC, exotics, feline medicine, anaesthesia and behaviour), and 2 hydro-therapists with qualifications in physiotherapy and canine massage therapy. We pride ourselves on being a sociable bunch, with an annual bowling contest, summer barbeque, plus other social events through the year. We carry out fundraising for a local dog rescue charity. Sadly, many have these social events have not taken place this year because of COVID 19 restrictions.

Some experience preferred but not essential. Interests in surgery or exotics also would be an advantage. In addition to your excellent clinical and communication skills, you will need to be a people oriented person, who is willing to support and guide your colleagues.
