Job Details

Enthusiastic SA vet required to join our 4-vet practice. Clinical excellence, good client care and communication skills essential.

The Practice
The Anglesey Pet Clinic is an independent 100% small animal veterinary surgery. We have been in business for over 10 years and have a loyal client base. We see lots of dogs, cats and small furries. Once a week we run a one-hour RSPCA clinic on behalf of the local RSPCA branch. Our equipment is extensive and includes modern IDEXX in-house laboratory (catalyst and procyte), digital AGFA CR X-ray, video endoscope and bronchoscope, colour Doppler ultrasound with ECG, tonopen, slit lamp  and we have a state of the art operating theatre for soft tissue and orthopaedic ops - all of these will allow candidates to work up cases fully in-house.

We have a varied workload that ranges from the standard (e.g. vaccinations, microchipping, neutering, dentals, in-house  laboratory, X-ray interpretation pet passports, pregnancy diagnosis with ultrasound, hip and elbow scoring, PAT dog assessments), to more specialist services and treatments, such as chemotherapy, echocardiograms, ECG, video endoscope and bronchoscope for non-invasive investigations and advanced surgeries. The principal vet has a particular interest in small animal surgery and orthopaedics (regularly carrying out TTAs) and holds a PGCertSAS. We have lovely, supportive and experienced team of nurses.

We consider CPD an essential part of a veterinary surgeon's role and have an extensive library of books and journals within a quiet spacious office. We offer staff a generous CPD allowance and are happy to support advanced qualifications. We can offer accommodation and a vehicle. We are located in beautiful Anglesey just 5 minutes from the beach and ca. 45 minutes drive from the Snowdonia Mountains.

The Role
We are looking for a full-time permanent vet (though we would consider part-time) who is keen to work up cases with good case continuity and support as required, provides excellent client care and has good communication skills. Share in the weekend rota. Our emergency out of hours is undertaken by VetsNow, though we continue to look after in-patients.

Successful Candidate
The ideal candidate should be keen to get to the bottom of conditions, provides excellent client care and has good communication skills. The successful candidate should consider CPD essential to their role and should be keen to update their knowledge and skills regularly. We would be happy to support a candidate wishing to pursue an advanced qualification. Given our location near the beach and in short driving distance to the Snowdonia Mountain range, this position might be particularly interesting to candidates with an interest in water sports, rock climbing, hiking, riding, etc.

The Package

  • Competitive salary package (£30,000-£45,000) - depending on experience
  • Generous CPD allowance: tuition costs of up to 3 full days of CPD per annum capped at £1500
  • Vehicle available
  • Advanced certificate: financial and day release support
  • Good work-life balance as no emergency ooh and a good weekend rota
  • Friendly and supportive nursing team
  • Great staff discount on products and treatments
  • Outstanding range of equipment (e.g. colour Dopper, digital X-ray, video endoscopes, in-house IDEXX lab, tonopen, slit lamp)
  • Pension scheme
  • Holidays: 5.6 working weeks (incl. bank holidays)
  • Extensive in-house library
  • Principal vet has BSAVA PGCertSAS and specialises in soft tissue/orthopaedic surgery
