Surgery Information / Job Description

We are looking for 2 passionate registered or experienced student veterinary nurses to join our fantastic team at Harlow Vets4Pets. 

The successful candidates will be joining a friendly mixed age team who focus on learning, evidence based medicine and co-operation. Our ideal candidates will be confident nurses with solid all round skills or experienced and motivated 2nd year student veterinary nurses. You should be an effective team player who is keen to get stuck into whatever the day throws at you with a smile and have a positive attitude. Your focus must be customer service and patient care in order to provide a balanced approach to veterinary support.

Adaptable communication, mental flexibility, ability to focus and resilience are really important to us as is enthusiasm for veterinary nursing in all of its guises. You should be as keen to mop the floor as you are to provide intensive care, as willing to leave the house at 5am to check a patient not fortunate enough to be able to attend an OOH provider as you are to snuggle a kitten during a vaccine appointment. You will need to understand the commercial aspect of veterinary practice and be able to communicate this to clients in a positive fashion.

Person Specification

You will be working from a well-equipped surgery that is purpose built and has the usual equipment as well as a full range of scopes, ultrasound, and Covidian force triad. We have a mixed and extensive small animal case load and a loyal client base. We are based on the St James Retail Park, an easy walk from the train station or nearest bus stop, and close to the M11 J7. Stanstead airport is just 20 minutes away.
 
The team is made up of 5 vets, 9 nurses, 1 VCA and 2 receptionists and are led by partners Garrick and Ruth. Garrick graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2005 and became a partner in the Harlow practice in June 2011. He prefers the medicine side of veterinary work over surgical procedures and has achieved his GPCert in Small Animal Medicine, GPCert in Endoscopy, and his PgCert in Small Animal Medicine, and is now pursuing a GPCert in Cardiology to expand his knowledge. He is particularly successful in helping clients to maintain the quality of their pet's life during terminal illness. Ruth qualified as a nurse in 1987 and has been with the practice since 2007 after a varied career. She is passionate about providing a great client service and in trying to help the team create a positive workplace.

These roles are full time and will include 1 in 3 weekends. There is no on-call. The rota includes provision for occasional overnight patient care and your own transport is essential. Additional training and guidance will be provided to SVNs.
