Experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon - Devon

We seek a full-time, experienced and forward-thinking small animal vet, who is confident with routine procedures and surgeries to join our dedicated team as the practice continues to grow. We can offer an excellent work-life balance, together with all the usual toys. We provide our own out-of-hours, with a current rota of 1 in 4.5 and time off following weekends on call.

The Practice

We are an independent mixed practice in the heart of rural mid-Devon. We are blessed to have Dartmoor National Park on our doorstep and the coastlines of Devon and Cornwall are within striking distance. The cities of Exeter and Plymouth are nearby, together with good rail and road links north and east. We currently employ 5 full-time-equivalent small animal vets alongside our experienced and dedicated nursing team and require an additional small animal vet to join our team as the practice continues to grow.

We have three branches located at Okehampton, North Tawton and Hatherleigh. Each branch has full theatre and prep facilities, together with digital radiography. We have an ultrasound machine that is able to be moved between sites and dental radiography at our Okehampton branch. We also have an extensive in-house laboratory (with haematology and biochemistry, including progesterone, T4 and bile acids) besides making use of wider testing at external laboratories. We also have a long and successful history of providing training for SVNs and currently have two training with us.

Our standard consult slots are 15 minutes duration. This affords us the time to treat each client and their pet as an individual, therefore offering them a better service, whilst ensuring our vets have the time and scope necessary to get satisfaction from their work whilst avoiding the usual time pressures.

We have one medicine and surgery certificate holder, and a second vet has recently started their surgery certificate. CPD is strongly encouraged and certificates or other qualifications will be supported and financed for the right individual. We are a member of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme.

Our surgeries are located in North Tawton, Okehampton and Hatherleigh, Devon.

Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate would have in excess of 2 years UK small animal practice experience. Competent at all routine GP surgery and medicine. Happy to work both on their own (sole charge) and within our supportive team.

The Package

RCVS, VDS, BVA and one subdivision of BVA included together with an attractive CPD package.
 5-day week with usual working hours 8.30-18.00, current out of hours rota 1in 4.5 with RVN support, time off following a weekend on-call. 33 days holiday (including Bank Holidays), salary commensurate with experience.
