Medical Oncology Internship - Guildford, Surrey

Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue hospital is seeking applications for its oncology internship beginning August 2021.
We are a purpose-built specialist referral hospital in Guildford, Surrey dedicated to expert care, innovative clinical decision-making and compassionate communication. The facilities are state-of-the-art and include four operating theatres, a 160-slice CT scanner, C-arm fluoroscopy, an interventional radiology suite, minimally-invasive surgical equipment, cystoscopy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, dedicated chemotherapy preparation and administration rooms, ultrasonography, digital radiography and a full in-house laboratory.

Due to the continued growth of the oncology service, applications are invited from veterinary surgeons with relevant post graduate experience for the position of oncology intern. The successful candidate will work with a team of specialists (including Diplomates of ACVIM / ACVS / ECVS / ECVIM / ECVDI), ECVS surgical residents, rotating interns, clinical research assistants, nurses and auxiliaries.

This 12-month post will provide training in all aspects of medical oncology including experience of advanced surgical and interventional oncologic procedures. Duties will involve daily collaboration with all clinical and non-clinical teams and you will be required to assist with the daily care of both inpatients and chemotherapy outpatients, consultations, client communication, diagnostic procedures and treatments. You will also be included in the out-of-hours rota. Active involvement with clinical research is encouraged, leading towards a peer-reviewed publication. Upon completing the program, you will have gained confidence and competence in the comprehensive care of the small animal cancer patient and therefore the post is ideally suited for candidates considering residency training in oncology; two interns in the last two years have moved onto oncology residencies.

The successful candidate must be a graduated veterinary surgeon and preferably have completed a one-year rotating internship or at least two years of general small animal practice. In addition, you will be care driven, be exceptionally organised, thorough and be able to operate in a 24/7 team environment.

You must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.

If you are not exempt from proving your English language proficiency, you must take an IELTS-Academic test (from the British Council. You will require an overall score of 7.5 with a minimum of 7 in each sub-test).
Interviews will take place in late March/early April 2021.
