Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic small animal veterinary surgeon to join the team at our Independent RCVS accredited Veterinary Hospital and Branches based in and around Milton Keynes. Experience would be preferred but we would consider a new graduate.

Milton Keynes 2The Practice
We are an independent, friendly veterinary practice caring solely for small animals with a large team of qualified nurses and 14 experienced vets, including surgical and medical certificate holders who are always ready to share their knowledge and help out the rest of the team. We have regular team meetings to share experiences, and discuss cases. Our Veterinary Hospital is purpose-built and we invest heavily in up-to-date equipment which enables us to work up cases and carry out surgeries not always possible in general practice including TPLOs and ultrasound guided biopsies. All our sites are inspected under the RCVS PSS and we pride ourselves on offering the highest quality care to our patients and clients.

We are the Host Practice for the Vets Now service in our area which means our patients can be cared for overnight without having to be moved and there are no night duties for our staff. A work-life balance is considered essential and our full-time vets work a 4 day week.

Location
Milton Keynes is a modern, spacious town which is surrounded by countryside and boasts large lakes for leisure pursuits whilst also being convenient for shopping and having very quick rail links to London.

The RoleMilton Keynes 1
The job would be based at the hospital and one of our branches and consist of both consulting and surgical time. A full-time vet would work a 4 day week with no night duties and 1 in 3 Saturday mornings.

Successful Candidate
We would like to find someone who enjoys general practice, can carry out routine surgery to a good standard and is able to demonstrate good consulting skills. Excellent communication and people skills are essential in order to establish a good client base and provide continuity of care. Ideally we would prefer someone with experience (2-3years+) but we have sufficient experienced vets to be able to mentor and guide a younger vet so a new graduate would not be short of support and good interpersonal skills would be highly valued in place of experience.

The Package

  • 5 weeks holiday
  • Time off for CPD and CPD budget
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • BVA membership
  • Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)

Company

Milton Keynes Veterinary Group runs the largest veterinary service in the Milton Keynes area with 4 branch surgeries conveniently located around our main Veterinary Hospital at Walnut Tree. We are a small animal veterinary practice.  This means that we treat all types of family pets including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters along with many more small animal species. We also provide our services to many working animals including guide, hearing, prison and police dogs.

We have partaken in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (voluntary) practice standard scheme. At Walnut Tree we have achieved the top status being allowed to call the surgery a Small Animal Hospital. Our branch surgeries are all accredited as Core Practices. We constantly review and upgrade our facilities and equipment to maintain the high quality health care we provide for pets in the region.

Our Hospital has on-site veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses 24 hours a day including Bank Holidays and weekends.  Vets Now (an independent company that specialises in providing veterinary surgeons and nurses trained to deal with critical care cases and emergencies) are responsible for the out of hours care for our patients.

We have a fully qualified animal physiotherapist who holds regular clinics at our Walnut Tree Hospital and Stoke Road surgery that can be very beneficial to pets with orthopaedic or muscular problems including arthritis or following surgery.

Milton Keynes Veterinary Group remains independently owned and run by a Partnership of Veterinary Surgeons who want to provide the best service for pets and their owners in the region.
