Mixed Animal Veterinary Surgeon - Glastonbury
We’re looking for a part-time or full-time vet, ideally with some experience to join our friendly, modern, client focused, independent practice on the Somerset Levels.
The role is a mix of approximately 60% small animal and 40% farm work (no equine). You will join our friendly team of five full time and one part time vets and be supported by a large nursing team and a dedicated reception team.
Our focus is on preventive health in both herd health and domestic pets.
We are an independent and forward thinking, well established mixed veterinary practice on the Somerset levels.
Spacious, purpose-built, well equipped facilities including two small animal operating theatres, separate dental and x-ray facilities and a designated LA operating theatre. We are an RCVS PSS accredited practice for all species treated, to GP standards for small animals. We are a cat friendly practice (Silver level) and also rabbit friendly.
All mod cons are available including ultrasound, dental x-ray and video endoscope along with a well-equipped in-house laboratory. Modern herd analysis software and bull soundness equipment.
We focus on high quality patient and client care and have a strong drive toward preventative health care in both the large animal and small animal fields.
We are a nurse training practice and have great interest in individuals’ clinical development.
We are located in famous Glastonbury, on the Somerset levels within an hour of the cities of Bristol and Bath.
The role is a mix of approximately 60% small animal and 40% farm work (no equine). You will join our friendly and inclusive team of five full time and one part time vets and be supported by a large nursing team and a dedicated and experienced reception team.
Small animal work will include a range of first opinion consultations, medical work-ups and surgery. Standard 20 minute appointments are made for all small animal medical cases.
Large animal work comprises mainly of dairy with a very pro-active farm client base. Routine fertility visits and preventative health comprising a large proportion of the farm workload, all within a compact catchment area.
There is flexibility within the team to support and promote individual interests and ideas the desire to pursue CPD options and postgraduate qualifications are fully supported and funded.
There is structured mentoring form an experienced team and an RCVS specialist in Cattle Health and Production provided for candidates with less experience.
There is a 1 in 6 out of hours rota (full support will be provided dependent on experience) with nurses also on the OOH rota to provide support for cases as needed. There is a 4.5 day working week (4d only after working a weekend). Part-time roles will be considered and discussed with candidates individually.
Experience would be advantageous, however a solid, structured mentoring programme will be provided for new graduates or those with less experience.
A strong interest in first opinion general practice is essential with the potential for involvement from herd health and preventative medicine to small animal internal medicine and surgery.
Excellent communication skills are essential, along with a desire to provide the highest quality of care.
