Chesterfield – Vet Surgeon via Cutting Edge Training Programme
£47,000 DOE plus benefits
A work life more inspiring at Vets Now Chesterfield
We have an opportunity in Chesterfield, via our Cutting Edge programme, for a Vet Surgeon with a keen interest in emergency and critical care. Our Chesterfield clinic has a steady, varied caseload – perfect for continued development. Working on average 40 hours per week over 3 shifts, our rota patterns have been designed with work-life balance at the heart of them. You will work no more than 3 shifts in a row and we aim to build in an extended period of time off every month which maximises your ability to pursue your other interests.
Cutting Edge - your first step into Emergency and Critical Care
At Vets Now, we are committed to the development of the next generation of the veterinary profession. That’s why we heavily invest in our induction programmes to support new Vet Surgeons in discovering a route into emergency practice. With CPD-led training, Cutting Edge is designed for Vet Surgeons looking to take their first steps into ECC and will equip you with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in emergency practice.
300 hours of CPD designed and delivered by experts
Delivered by world renowned experts in their field over a ten week period, Cutting Edge combines lectures, interactive seminars, practical training and surgery with the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians for four weeks. The programme is a great way for you to meet likeminded Vet Surgeons and expand your network of emergency clinicians. Topics covered include but are not limited to:
- Abdominal Surgery
- Blood Smears
- Emergency Diagnostics
- Neurological Emergencies
- Orthopaedic and Spinal Emergencies
- Practical Ultrasound
- Suturing Skills
- Shock and Fluids
- Toxicology
- Wound Management
We look after you, so you can look after them

Company
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from 55 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our three hospitals — in Glasgow, Manchester and Swindon — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
