Job Details

Parkvets in Sidcup, Kent who are looking for a  vet.

We are looking for 3 veterinary surgeons to work across our 7 branch clinics and at the hospital. In general the rota includes emergency work, surgery and consulting each week. Shifts vary from an early start of 7.30am to a late start of 11.00am and all shifts are 10 hours in duration.

We are looking for vets who are strong team players, willing to pitch in and get involved. The successful candidates will have a can-do attitude and will not be afraid of hard work. They will thrive in a busy environment where there is a wide diversity within the case load, an emphasis on imaging and diagnostics, very little case referral and a requirement to work to the highest standards.

Our vet team is close-knit but welcomes new additions, especially if there is the opportunity to learn from them too. Case sharing and collaboration are part of our daily lives and the team discussions often spill over onto WhatsApp discussions. Our nurses are a delight and will gladly support new team members through the challenges of being the 'new person’.  Most of our RVNs take on a number of clinical roles including 2nd vaccinations, post op checks and taking bloods.

Our hospital is accredited under the PSS and we have all the equipment you would expect along with a sophisticated laboratory staffed by bio-medical scientists. If you particularly like emergency work you will be pleased to learn that we are the de-facto emergency hospital in our area AND we look after the OOH for a number of local practices.

We are a gold standard ISFM practice as well as a Platinum Compassion Understood accredited practice. As a large practice we are able to ensure the vets get to focus on the clinical aspects of veterinary work by having other teams to handle insurance claims, pet health plans and referral administration.

Experience in non-charity, small animal veterinary clinics would be beneficial. Medical bias would be ideal but routine surgical skills and experience are a must. We need you to be comfortable with a bitch spay and most routine procedures. A strong interest in imaging would be helpful and experience of ultrasound would be a definite advantage. As we have a dedicated exotics ward anyone with an interest in this area would be welcome to apply, although this is not essential.

Benefits (pro rata):

  • 25 days paid holiday not including bank holidays
  • 5 days paid CPD leave
  • £1250 CPD Allowance per annum
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • VDS Membership paid
  • BVA Membership paid
  • Service based holiday entitlement increases
  • VDS cover
  • Enhanced maternity, adoption, shared parental leave and surrogacy pay
  • Enhanced paternity pay
  • Birthday leave
  • Discounted veterinary fees
  • My Benefits - various discounts including retail & gym memberships
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Pension
  • CPD/training support
  • Paid bereavement leave
  • Company sick pay
  • Employee opinion survey
  • Free uniform in a number of roles
  • Annual pay reviews
  • Social events
  • Sponsorship for overseas employees
  • Academy & Leadership courses
  • Focus on employee wellbeing
  • Relocation packages

As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.

Company

You would be forgiven for thinking that all veterinary practices are alike - after all every vet wants the very best for their patients - but the variation in service levels is as extensive in the veterinary world as it is in any other profession.

Parkvets is an accredited Tier 3 practice with all the facilities and equipment that would imply.  We manage the vast majority of our cases in-house without the need for expensive and inconvenient referral and we operate our own out-of-hours service.

To achieve this we have a team of 16 vets supported by more than 20 nurses - most of whom are fully qualified - who tend our in-patients morning, noon and night.  And our vets have over 90 years of cumluative experience, so there is not much we haven't seen.
