Cutting Edge is a ten-week programme specifically designed to equip Vet Surgeons with the skills and confidence needed to work sole charge in an emergency environment. To qualify for the programme, Vet Surgeons must possess a minimum of six months UK based small animal experience and be confident consulting and performing routine surgical procedures sole charge. The next intake is 16 August 2021.

Comprehensive learning with 300 hours of free CPD

During these challenging times, we’ve adapted our course delivery methods to keep our staff safe and are now running our programmes virtually. If restrictions allow closer to the time, we will run the programme face-to-face from our Support Office in Dunfermline, Scotland. The programme is split into three blocks and combines lectures and interactive seminars, practical training and surgery with the opportunity to work alongside an experienced emergency Vet Surgeon in one of our clinics for four weeks. Topics include but are not limited to:

• Abdominal Surgery
• Blood Smears
• Emergency Diagnostics
• Neurological Emergencies
• Orthopaedic and Spinal Emergencies
• Practical Ultrasound
• Suturing Skills
• Shock and Fluids
• Toxicology
• Wound Management

Earn while you learn

We’ll pay a salary from day one of the programme. For the ten-week programme, Cutting Edge Vet Surgeons receive a basic salary of £40,000 per annum and from week 11, salaries increase and will vary depending on the clinic the Vet Surgeon is based at. A regional allowance may also be applicable in some areas to reflect of the cost of living.

Join the market leader

Upon completion of the programme, Vet Surgeons will work a 40-hour week with an average of 12-15 shifts per month. Weekend rotations generally are 1:2 or 2:3 and will feature a mix of nights and days.
