A work life less ordinary at Vets Now

A Vet Surgeon at Vets Now will be exposed to an exciting array of medical and surgical cases. Some of our clinics have a private only caseload whilst some have a mix of both private and charity cases. Work life balance is extremely important to us, that's why we have designed rota patterns that maximise your time off and incorporate an extended period of time off every month. Typically, a full time Vet will work an average of 3 shifts per week which includes 1:2 weekends and a fair share of bank holidays. We have flexible part time and weekend only options across our network of clinics too – there really is something for everyone.

Continual professional development

Our supportive UK network of emergency clinics and specialty hospitals work in collaboration to ensure that we can offer the best emergency and critical care in the country. Whether it’s sharing best practice or seeking advice on a particularly complex case, our teams work in partnership with each other. Our people are at the heart of what we do and that’s why we take a pioneering approach to people development. We have cemented our commitment to continuous development by heavily investing in CPD, ECC certification and coaching to give our staff the springboard they need to take their career to the next level. We’ve also introduced AdvantEdge – an emergency programme for experienced small animal and mixed practice Vet Surgeons.

Enhance your emergency knowledge

AdvantEdge is delivered virtually over a two-week period by specialists in ECC, Internal Medicine and Surgery as well as experienced ECC clinicians. A surgery practical is also included in the programme. AdvantEdge culminates in supported shifts over a two-week period with a skilled ECC Vet, allowing you ample time to settle in. The syllabus contains both clinical and non clinical lectures including:

  • Abdo and Thoracic Radiology
  • Analgesia and CRI’s
  • Blood Gas Analysis
  • Cardiac Emergencies
  • Communication
  • Dyspnoea
  • Fluid Therapy
  • Managing Shock
  • Neurological Emergencies
  • Professional Responsibility
  • Transfusion Therapy
  • Triage
  • Toxicology

Receive 75 hours of free CPD

Many experienced Vet Surgeons choose to join Vets Now, via AdvantEdge, to receive additional CPD alongside an enhanced induction. Learning alongside like-minded Vet Surgeons creates a culture that we’re extremely proud of, and the programme is a great way to build relationships and extend your support network of emergency Vets throughout the country.

We look after you, so you can look after them

Recognising hard work is important to us, and that’s why we have invested in a first-class benefits package that includes:

  • 7 weeks pro rata annual leave
  • Your birthday as a paid day off
  • Private medical insurance
  • £1500 CPD allowance plus 35 paid hours pro rata
  • UK Standard Pension contributions – 5% Employee/3% Employer
  • Professional membership fees
  • Up to 50% discounted staff pet care
  • Death in service of two times annual salary
  • Membership of employee wellbeing programme
  • Company sick, maternity, paternity and adoption pay schemes

If you’re looking for a full or part time role and have a keen interest in ECC, AdvantEdge could be the perfect fit. Please get in touch with James in our Talent team to discuss on 07922 574213 or email james.forrester@vets-now.com

Company

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from 55 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our three hospitals — in Glasgow, Manchester and Swindon — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
